On a day to day basis, I will take part in API development tasks using programs such as jenkins and intellij. These tasks can be anything from small code changes, writing api's or admin tasks. I also take part in apprentice based tasks and work shops. For exmample I have juts taken part in a hackathon.
I have learnt many skills and developed on exsiting ones since working at barclays. The new skills i have learnt are programming in Java, enterprise programming, API's, Jenkins and other automation programs such as chef, cloud computer (AWS and our internal cloud system), code testing, version control programs such as GIT. Also i have inproved on soft skills such as my presentation skills, communication skill and confidence.
I enjoy the program very much. I am continuously learning everyday, i have made new friends, i am being payed a good wage and having my degreed payed for. I also enoy talking part in apprentice events which are fun but educational and challenging , but provide a break from your everyday routine.
I think the structure is well organised to a point. I believe that some of the event and activities we have to do within work is good and benifical , but some are not as benifical and can take you away from yout everyday work. Also on the University degree program, you're made to take some courses that you didnt choose to and i belive it takes away from your chosen pathway.
I recieve alot of support from my employer. From the apprentice leader, to your line manager or other collegues, there are many people i can go to if i have an problems or queries. I have many lines of contact if i have any university problems, work problme or even personal problems
I recieve a decent amount of support form my training provider, but this support can vary from differnt people. The support officer that comes into work from university is extremely helpful, i can go to him if im worried or have any query about university and work. Also my course tutor is helpful, but could give more support
My qualification is helping me do better in my role as i am learning things that are directlyy applicable to my role. My course is very relevent and allows me to take what ive learnt in university into my role and understand things alot better. It also supports me and gives me a basis i can build on.
Yes there are many extra curricular activities to get involved in. As barclays are big on citizenship you are incourange to get involved in many events that are run by staff or barclays itself. There are also robot challege event you can get involved in as barclays run robot events for primary school children
Yes
It is a great place to work, It has a relaxed atmospher and a friendly feeling. It has great career developing prospects, your're well payed, get your degree payed for (no dept). You make so many new friend that are in the same position as you, greate experience and a well esablished company that will look great on your cv
Be yourself and dont pretend you're something you're not. Barclays are not looking for the perfect package. they're looking for someone who is passionate, confident, someone who is enthusiastic and will work hard. Most emportanly they're looking for someone who they can develop and mold into a perfect employee who will add value to the company.
