  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • i am doing a service analyst apprentice, part of the Barclays technology apprenticeship. my day to day role involves reporting the technology groups position in risk and control for the bank. using different tools and services for data and communicating with different business areas to build a bigger picture of risk and control.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • as i have not started my firebrand training course on data analysis (level four) i have not learnt any new skills but i have broaden and increased my skills from previous jobs for example i am more confident now using excel, word and power point. sending emails and the correct formats to use when speaking to different people in the bank

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i am a bit older than the other apprentices and had a job previous that i really did enjoy, i was a weapon engineer on submarines in the royal navy. i have struggled with the aspect of being very active and hands on to sitting at a desk for several hours a day. however i do enjoy what i do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • i can not comment on this yet as i have not started the firebrand training, i know the course i will be doing which is the data analysis level 4 and i am looking forward to staring this course. what i have been doing so far is great and set me up for great start.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • i receive lots of support at Barclays doing this apprenticeship. the support network here is really good and i feel valued in my team. also know i can speak out and problems i have and also where i can go for more advice and help if needed. which makes working here a better experience

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • as i have not started the level 4 data analysis with firebrand i can not comment on this, however i have spoken to last years apprentices and they have told me its very well organised and you get a lot of support so this is very encouraging sign and looking forward to starting the course.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • as i have not started the level 4 data analysis with firebrand i can not comment on this, however i believe we have chosen the right course for me to do, there are a couple of modules that dont relate to my work or team but we have already organised with other areas of the bank for me to shadow them so i can complete that part

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are lots of social activities to take part in at work and they are advertised on the boards outside of the canteen, also there are event organised on the Barclays intranet from all around the business locations to get involved in. i have attend a few online sessions when public speakers have came in to the London or New York offices which have been good

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Barclays to work at to a friend because its a company to be proud of working at, lots of variety in the roles, people listen to you no matter what rank and you feel your opinion is valued. lots of perks and rewards, chance to travel to over locations if lucky.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • my tips to any one applying to Barclays for an apprenticeship would be. be yourself, dont be to over confident, speak up they want to hear your opinion, respect others opinions, get stuck in and involved you're there to work and take part no matter what level or how long you have been there. dont worry if you feel like you dont have all the experience. they take people of all ages skills and backgrounds train you up and make you better as long as you a willing to put the effort in.
