Analysing testing scenarios then writing test cases to be used along with automation framework in order to produce a set of tests that test various payments functions to ensure Barclays payment services run as expected. These tests are automated so that a large number of tests can be ran instantly.
I have learned a variety of new skills through my job role, such as: using Cucumber and Gherkin to produce 'feature files' that are used to write and run tests, working under agile methodology to meet deadline is an efficient way. Through university I have also learned the basics of Java coding and web development.
From the start I have really enjoyed my programme as I am gaining a degree qualification along with 4 years of practical work experience. I enjoy this apprenticeship programme as it has helped me meet new people, develop my skills and increase my confidence both practically and academically by providing me with the support I need in order to improve.
My programme is very well structured. My degree spans across 4 years with the first year being a 'taster' into what the degree can offer following with a course specific to my career goals. Work and study are balanced well as I am on day release from work to attend university while being given any extra time needed by my managers at Barclays if extra work is needed towards university deadlines.
I receive as much support as I need at Barclays as my managers, team and apprentice coaches provide me with lots of opportunities to reach out for extra support such as; study groups, advice on time management, and assignment writing support by apprentice buddies who have been through the same process, which is extremely helpful.
My tutors at university provide lots of support whether it is providing us with extra resources for further reading in order to better understand a certain topic or holding additional sessions that allow us to work on upcoming assignments with the support of tutors on hand to help with any potential issues.
I feel like my work at university has helped me to perform better in my role at Barclays as it has helped to boost my confidence when using Java which is a common tool used in my role when creating test cases, allowing me to progress further than other who may not have had the extra time to learn such topics.
There are plenty of activities to be involved with, such as citizenship activities like helping school children with robot sessions or clubs like football, jui jitsu and even gaming events held after work. E.g. my team held an open tournament of the popular game Super Smash Bros which allowed us to make new friends that we may not have met otherwise.
Yes
Barclays provide a wide variety of different job roles which would appeal to a lot of people my age. Barclays provide a competitive salary as well as paying for the 4 year degree. Best of all, unlike other apprenticeship providers Barclays provide you with a guaranteed job at the end of the programme
I would suggest others that when applying, let Barclays know the areas that you are interested in as this will allow Barclays to assign you to a role that is 'tailored' around your interests, ultimately allowing you to thrive and enjoy the role in order to make the most out of such a great opportunity
