I am a junior project manager in the business banking team. It involves communicating with the different component teams and receiving their updates on the project I'm managing. I control risks and mitigate them as well as assumptions, issues and dependencies. I create weekly update packs to go to higher stakeholders and people involved in the project to keep them updated.
I am still developing my skills but I would say I have developed my communication skills. Having daily calls and sessions with people has helped with that. I have also developed my excel and powerpoint skills through doing various activities that need to be done. Regarding any new skills I have learnt, I would say I have learnt how to adjust my tone and words to match the colleague I'm speaking to, to communicate efficiently.
I very much enjoy my programme. I have a good team where I feel I get good help and support. I enjoy the relaxed and laid back working environment as well as the support system in place. The programme meets my expectations as I am well supported with my job role as well as my college experience and work load.
My programme is very well organised. I was put on a project management course, which, being a project manager, is very helpful. A few colleagues have been put in courses not very relevant to their job role so I feel lucky in that regard. There is a good support system and regular meetings with my line manager, mentor, skills coach and apprentice coach. I get given enough time to study for my college course at work.
A lot. I have weekly meetings with my line manager and mentor and monthly meetings with my apprentice coach. I have a lot of support available to me, through shadowing days, training sites etc. Everyone seems more than happy to answer any questions or provide any support they can while I learn and work on my job role.
I have regular meetings with my skills coach to make sure I am okay with it all and on track. As well as that, the coach from the first workshop (as I've only had one so far) has offered his email and support for any questions we may have after the workshop. I enjoyed my first workshop as it gave a good background on project management and the basics and I am very much looking forward to the rest of the workshops.
As I am on a project management course as a Junior project manager, this training course very much applies to what I am doing in my job role. As I have only done one workshop so far, I can't say I've put a lot to practice at work, but the first session definately helped with the basics and I would say has helped me. I also gained more insight in the first workshop as to what I will be doing in the later ones which I am looking forward to.
Yes, there are a number of extra-curricular activities. At my workplace they have tennis courts and football pitches so there are regular friendly football games going on both during lunch and after work. There is also a games clubs, car club, public speaking club etc. Although I am not a member of any, during my time outside of work, I like to horse ride, read, photography and spend time with family and friends
Yes
I would definitely recommend Barclays to a friend because they are a good employer. My workplace is social and professional and they will support you with training to get you up to speed in your job role and feel comfortable. It is a casual, laid back workplace with a supportive, friendly environment
I would say on the assessment day, be yourself. If they don't accept you then the job role wasn't suited to your personality. That being said, also try and do your best in all the parts of the assessment day. If you get accepted, try and thoroughly get involved in the experience and volunteering and getting to know both your team and cohort.
