  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • Repairing a variety of laptops from all over the country using a wide array of tools and utilities, a huge warehouse of parts and a national delivery network.

    7/10

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • Problem solving, teamwork, technical skills/knowledge/experience, experiencing and adapting to a large workplace, knowledge of the business and businesses in general.

    9/10

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • Sometimes get stressful jobs but the majority are still fun and interesting to troubleshoot and work on fixing. Calling customers is not as bad as it may sound, and I've definitely learnt not only technical skills but developed my interpersonal skills too.

    8/10

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • Getting moved from the training room to the main workplace was messy and a little confusing. To this day sometimes there aren't enough working terminals for all of us and some have to move into a different area. When things do work they work well though.

    6/10

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • Everyone is friendly, and many people on other repair teams you come into contact with tend to remember you and after not long you stop feeling like you're in a big room full of strangers.

    9/10

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • I knew going into this placement that I would almost definitely not want to do tech repair as a career, and while I have enjoyed my time the placement has confirmed there are other things I would rather do long term.

    7/10

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • Paid, a very good amount considering I applied for the placement not expecting any money back! Also got the majority of my travel costs reimbursed by my college.

    9/10

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • Not many physical events, but lots of groups on the Dixons Carphone Workplace.

    7/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Dixons Carphone to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • A decent job if you're interested in it with a good atmosphere, nice people, good employee rewards, good pay, and convenient holiday arrangements for people staying here longer than a short placement.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dixons Carphone?
  • It's a very friendly place but everyone still gets their heads down when it's needed. Expect that when you come in here, and you'll be fine.
