My role within Barclays, specifically for the credit card side of business, is to analyse data in order to help make strategic decisions that will either benefit us financially, let us help our customers more or reach a wider target audience so that we can essentially grow as a business.
The data that I have to work with is stored in very large datasets that are too big for a standard excel file to hold. This means that I have had to develop my coding skills so that i can pull, validate and manipulate any data that I would need.
I very much enjoy being an apprentice at Barclays as its my first role within the financial sector and to have it at a company with such a well known brand is even better. It has provided me with a lot of opportunities to meet people and develop my career.
My program is quite well structured. The courses are laid out and organised in a clear and concise way and the content is all relevant to my role as well. Sometimes, however, structural changes within my team in work can have an effect on the workload that I can output.
My employers support me constantly, as it is a very technical role which cannot just be picked up without having a lot of training first. For the first few weeks, I was just learning from a colleague about the way that the business worked and how to develop my skills.
My training provider supports me very well in regards to my courses and qualifications. The teachers of the courses always know what they are talking about and I also have a skills coach who i have regular meetings with to check progress on coursework and ensure everything is on track.
As previously mentioned, my qualification that I am currently working towards has a direct relationship with my work. During a course, I often find myself making links to similar situations within the workplace where I can apply that knowledge, and coding is a skill that needs to be practiced constantly.
Yes, Barclays are very keen on making sure all colleagues are happy at work by providing events and activities like this to let the team get together and bond socially outside of work. This can include meals, drinks, sports events and even some charity events, in and out of work.
Yes
Barclays is an exceptional bank that can cater for anyone with an interest in the banking industry and financial sector due to its wide array of areas that it covers. It also provides a substantial amount of opportunities as moving teams within the company is encouraged to gain more experience.
Don't feel as though because of your educational or cultural background that you may have less of a chance as Barclays are open to all applicants with good problem solving and communication skills when it comes to the assessment day, so being able to express your qualities is key.
