Overall on a day to day basis, I will recieve work from those of a higher grade, tax work specifically. This can be a range of different work from helping file tax returns to offering advice on how to arrange tax affairs. I have done this since September and I work 7.5 hours per day.
I have developed my speaking and listening skills. I feel I have also become a lot more of a professional person due to going out to meetings with clients and having meetings with a lot more senior colleagues internally. I think this has helped me as the range of people I work with has given me lots of different insights.
I do very much enjoy the programme as it has got me into working, in a way where I still attend college however I am working full time and being paid for this. It has exceeded my expectations and i do very much enjoy it. The team play a big role in this and are all great to work with.
The programme is very structured and we are given set college days at the start. This was confused a bit as we were given 2 days at one point and only had to attend one. Aside from this I feel it is well organised and there is a team to assist any time if there are any problems.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. There are different support networks including career coaches, mentors, buddies and general colleagues. I have found that having the option of having a wide range of people who are easily accessible available to talk if you ever have any issues is very reassuring.
The training and support received from Kaplan has been ok. We have received support from our kaplan tutor, who I can't give credit to more (Dan Wymm). The rest of the kaplan centre hasn't offered much support as we don't speak / see the other people who work there aside from our tutor.
As we have only studied personal tax in the kaplan apprenticeship up to now - I feel the content is not really relevant for my job as I work in corporate tax. We later sit a corporate exam and learn the content so i feel this will be more useful than it has been thus far.
There is an abundance of extra things to get involved in with PwC. There are events, activities and team socials happening at some point, which are based close to work making our lives easier. When I'm not working I do enjoy playing football, and it would be good if the team could set something up around this as I know the audit teams have many teams.
Yes
PwC is a very large company with many opportunities on offer. It would be great for someone to take this opportunity as it will open up a magnitude of doors in the future. To be able to work at such a great firm i am lucky to have got the opportunity.
Apply before Christmas the year before you join. The application process is a mix of online tests, challenges and an assessment day. Advice - I would say to not try too hard to be what PwC want you to be. They are finding individuals who will fit into the team (all the tax stuff gets taught at college).
