  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of monitoring a team email inbox, answering inbound calls, calling clients via an outbound line. It mainly consists of outbound calls when it comes to being on the phone, an example of these calls can be what we call 'Initial Contact' which is calling the client for the first time to discuss their registration to Barclays.Net and going through the forms with them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have developed my communication skills with clients, prior to this, I wasn't comfortable with calling out to customers but being in this role it feels a lot more natural to me because it is such a huge part of the role itself. Also writing my own emails without templates is something I wasn't able to do in my previous role, now I am, I can say my 'Professional' typing has improved.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am not enjoying my programme because it feels although it is very unorganised and there are a lot of gaps, such as receiving the banking text book after 7 months, being signed on to the actual apprenticeship after 6 months, meaning the first 6 months of being paid apprenticeship wage was some what of a waste of time given we had no apprentice work to complete during that time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Again, referring to question 3, I feel the programme is not that organised. The whole thing needs a complete overhaul in terms of how it is structured and how it is performed. I have nothing against whom who run the programme, just that there is minimal communication and it is hard to understand what it is we are supposed to do.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From my employer I receive a fair bit of support. This is mainly in the form of team leader which support my learning for the job role, however in terms of the apprentice side, there is hardly any support. There is clearly too many apprentices for them to handle.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Again, there is minimal support from the apprenticeship side of things and the qualification. There is little communication from the apprentice leader, possibly due to the large amount of apprentices. I feel this needs to be split up into difference coaches so everyone can have an equal opportunity to get help when needed

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It doesnt. The only way I get better at my role is through the in house training, I feel my apprenticeship has nothing to do with our roles, only because we are on the apprenticeship, we get to experience different areas of the bank so that's the best link between the job and the apprenticeship

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are many, there is citizenship activities such as going to schools, there are sports events such as football 11v11s between different Barclay locations. There is a committee dedicated to the gadbrook globes aswell which is a brilliant networking opportunity which I have personally applied to do. For the most part there are plenty of things to choose.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is an amazing employer, so many benefits, access to discounts on a large amount of shops, stores and brands. However I wouldn't reccomend the apprenticeship. No while it's still in its teething stage. Aeast it seems that way. I would reccomend going straight to a ba3 which is the pay grade everyone starts at, except apprentices which is slightly lower at a ba2

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • I would say to be honest. Dont try to be some one you are not. Go through the process as normal and make sure you do some research on the Barclays values, this will be impressive to them and it will also give you an insight on what is expected as an employee
