My job role at the moment varies every day I’m in work. This is because I’m on a apprenticeship so my boss wants me to experience all the different areas of engineering at Manchester airport. We normally shadow a fully qualified engineer in whatever field we are place in on the day.
Yes I have already learnt multiple skills on the course that I am on. I have already learnt electrical installation, hand fitting, electrical maintenance, mechanical maintenance, electronics and PLC. I have also developed existing skills. These are mainly functional skills, which are maths, English and ICT. This is thanks to Trafford college.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme. I feel this way because I think it’s helping me progress through my career path and teaching me the essentials I need. I also enjoy this programme because it provides on the job learning and off the job learning which is, in my opinion is perfect.
Personally I feel the programme could of been organised a little better in some areas, especially near the start. I think they could of laid out the programme better so that we knew from the start what we would be doing. Saying this it has improved as the course has gone on.
As a apprentice I feel like a get ample support in all the key areas. For example, we have been offered a mentor to help us understand the best way to progress through our career and to offer us support if we need it. We also get to meet up once a month to strictly talk about how we’re feeling.
Our training provider is really supportive, especially when it comes to achieving our qualifications. They have a nice lay out which lets you know what’s needs to be done and when it’s needs to be done for. They are always trying to give pieces of advice when it comes to practical or theory work.
I feel the qualifications are perfect for the job role we are going into and I think this because everything I’ve come across in the work place I’ve been taught something about it in college. Especially when it comes to the electrical maintenance and mechanical maintenance side of things.
Currently at the moment there has been one professional networking event which I feel didn’t have much to the with my job role. Also at the moment there isn’t any sports teams. But I’m saying this we have been on other activities such as going for a meal.
Yes
I feel that Manchester airport is the perfect place to start a career. I think this because there are so so many opportunities and different types of jobs on offer at Manchester airport that it’s the perfect place to work. Also it’s a nice environment to work in.
My piece of advice would be to make sure you are interested in what Manchester airport has to offer and what they do as a company. My other piece of advice would be to embrace everything Manchester airport has to other as it’s a brilliant company to work for.
