Role is to learn skills and knowledge required to become a maintenance technician. This involves shadowing current technicians, working on breakdowns and rectifying faults with machines under supervision of a technican. Also complete improvment projects set by current technians. Apprentices are to use own inative to solve problems and complete projects, using current technicns as infomation sources.
New skills are learnt everyday, as each day presents a new breakdown, which will require a different solution to the present. As a result of this alot of new skills are aquired. These being mainly mechanical and electrical, however as a result of the broad range of machines available, these mechancial skills vairy, allowing the apprentice to gain a full, more broad spectrum of skills used in the work place. Technical placements are also in place. It is from these placments that not only problem solving skills are developed but additonal IT skills are learnt. Vairying from using spreadsheets, to commissioning and fault finding software.
I currently enjoy work alot, the main reason being the vairety of jobs completed everyday. Not all break downs can be predicted, as a result of this, each day presents a different fault with a different solution. This keeps the job fresh and opens up oppornities to continously learn new skills. the responsability given to apprentices in the workplace also greatly improves job satisfaction. I feel like i have a worth in the company and actually contribute to the smooth running of the line.
Program is structerd well. Diverse range of placments ensures that apprentice gets a well roudned, full expereince of the bussiness. this will then allow them to move to any area in the bussiness, if they so choose. It also provides apprentices with a good range of skills that can be used throughtout the company. This combined with the day release to college allows me to fully maximise my learning
Employer couldnt be more supportive. The standard training provided equips the apprentice with skills required to function in the job role. This is improved by the technicans on the placements themselves. Additonal training is in place to further apprentice knowledge. Mentors are available to seek guidance and training from if required. Reviews are he;d every few months to check up on progress and ensure the apprentice stays on track. Goals are then set from these meetings and the acheivment reviewed in the next session.
A set day is in place for attending college. This college day is timetabled so that all relevent subjects are required. Lecterurs are supportive and provide all necessary infomation for exams/assignments to be completed. Oportunity is always present for an apprentice to maximise thier grade as much as possible.
the qualification if tailored to fit the role. as a result of this, all information and skills obtained thorugh the college, are relevent and frequently used in the work place. These skills are then just further expanded in the work environemnt. This is the same for both practical and written subjects
Alot of E C A is available. It is up to the appprentice to decide weather or not they want to partake. These include events such as charity football games, mountain hiking challange and charitable fundraisers. Events such as fundraisers are handed over to apprentices to fully plan and coordinate themsleves.

Decent paying wage Access to benifits (car scheme, pension, healthcare) High standard of training Access to alot of knowledge, skills and technology on hand at all times Possibility for progression is high New scenarios every day keep the job intresting Responsabilty given, improves satisfaction Support provided by employer and college is good
Research into the company before hand to ensure that it is the right work environement for you and you will enjoy to job role enough to create enthusiasm. Be yourself, dont get a job for the person you are pretending to be as it may not be right for you. If engineering, more specificaly, maintenance/fault finding and repairs are of an intrest then BMW is valid option.
