  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in audit client engagement reams, this involves either working at the home office or more usually at the client offices on site around Edinburgh. learning audit procedures and how to communicate with clients on getting supporting documentation; testing the figures given by the client in their financial statements at year end and making sure they all add up, testing how they control their cash and revenue as well as using software like Excel to improve efficiency.

Over time you build up professional communication skills such as speaking with clients over email, phone calls as well as going to speak to them in person and how to prepare questions to ask.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme even though it still feels like it's in its infancy with regards to how well it is organized and how much contribution apprentices have to the overall work performed, it is still providing lots of invaluable experience working on client facing jobs and being professional from a younger age

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the basic structure of the program is good and you know what you are going to be studying towards each year qualification wise, but central management of the program still needs work however they have been improving it year on year to try make the experience better for people and so they get the most out of it

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • there is more support given this year than there was in previous years due to raised awareness of the apprentices not wanting to be left on their own. there is plenty of study support from BPP and the professional qualifications department within the company and person support within your department for work

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • there is a lot of support surrounding qualifications as the central team are always quick at answering emails and the tutors for either face to face or online learning are always very willing to help, if you have issues you can speak to your own performance manager as well to support you

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • the qualification definitely helps you to understand accounting principles and how they are applied on the job better, as there is a lot of theory that you would need to know before actually doing audit procedures so that they make more sense to you and you remember your study material better

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there is an active social committee at work who organize social events every other week so it is very easy to make friends with people are work as everyone lives mostly around the same area, there are smaller after work socials and several around Christmastime etc. with dinners and outings every year

    9/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend KPMG to a friend to work for because there are a lot of good benefits, you can tailor your experience and training to an extent to make it work for you and there are a lot of opportunities to make new friends with colleagues after work which makes the experience more enjoyable

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • don't expect everything to be handed to you as you need to work for opportunities as well as if you don't ask, you don't get. if you want something specifically you can mostly always get it by asking the right person who is in charge rather than being general as you're more likely to be noticed
