My role involves working for the technical learning team within KPMG business services, I help my manager where needed and she provides me with different tasks to complete. I also work with our audit and tax teams in order to help move our course materials to our new collaboration site.
new skills that I have learnt are things such as using excel regularly and properly, I also have developed my communication skills via emails and face to face communication. I have also taken a course on presentation skills and this was to help build on the ones I have currently in order to allow me to become more confident and comfortable while presenting.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme as I am aware of how big a company KPMG are, how hard I worked to get here and therefore will enjoy and learn from this programme as much as I can, I have also met loads of new people allowing me to broaden my networks.
my programme is well structured now that is up and running, there was some confusion at the start however now everyone is on board and understands when we have assignments due, exams to take and lectures to attend. It is also well organised as we get regular emails reminding us and updating us on any information.
I receive a lot of support from my employer, as I have a progress manager who monitors my progress within my rotation and helps guide my career path. we also have the PQA team who support us with our assignments. alos my manager is very supportive and is proactive when I need help, I feel very comfortable approaching her about anything.
I receive good amounts of support, the feedback given is always helpful and allows me to act upon this in order to improve my work. however marking periods are long and there is occasionally a lack of communication between the training provider and myself as she will only tell me one document was uploaded after she has marked it, instead of prior therefore allowing me to upload it and mark it. There was multiple opportunities to do so as we also had an interim catch up call in between hand it and feedback period.
It allows me to get involved in more things in order to allow me to meet more criteria in the qualification, therefore pushing me out of my comfort zone to learn more skills and develop into a more rounded asset to the company or future company, therefore making me more qualified and valued.
Yes there are many extra curricular activities to get involved in, especially within teams, we go for social events after work, or they are hosted in our canteen. Also there is football after work with fellow colleagues. This was one of the main things that made me apply to KPMG as I had a friend who worked here before and he told me about how theres a 'People Cultutre'.
Yes
Because not only is it one of the biggest companies in the world, there is a huge network of extremely friendly and down to earth people who are more than happy to help when you need it. Also they aren't only colleagues, they are friends who allow you to enjoy your time even more at the company.
Be yourself, KPMG are a client facing firm, they hire you for who your are not who you pretend to be. Be confident, prepared for a challenge and be ready to work hard, but also there are numerous opportunities to play hard aswell, whether that's with work or after work on the weekends.
