  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My daily role specifically changes dependent on what I have been tasked. However, generally speaking, I begin by checking my emails and catching up on work from the day before. This leads to me finishing these tasks or finding myself in need of completing more tasks. There are also weekly and monthly meetings used to update other members in our team about what progression has been made so that the whole team knows where everyone is at.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through work, I have been able to advance in my Microsoft skills (mainly word, excel & outlook). These skills have helped me to complete my work more efficiently and also maintain a high standard of quality. Through university, I have been taught 2 new languages (HTML and Java) which are the first coding languages I have learnt.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme I am on is quite enjoyable. Because Barclays recruit a large number of apprentices, I have been able to make friends with lots of new people. I have also been able to meet new people at university as well. I also enjoy learning new things everyday to help me become more professional.

  • The programme I am on is very well organised. I have people at Barclays and people at work who try to keep up to date with all the apprentices. We often have meetings at least once a month so I am able to voice my issues and progress my education.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From my employer, I receive a good amount of support. I work with my team and sit around everyone who works in my area so am able to ask questions and answer them I think that this has been very beneficial in my professional progression. I also have a good amount of support from people located in different areas (i.e London) for example, I set regular meetings with my manager to keep her up to date.

  • My training provider, provided me with an adequate amount of support when working towards achieving my qualification. I was able to learn a lot of new things and also develop on existing skills. • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Learning new things at university has helped me to understand the team around me. For example, I was able to talk to other team members (Java programmers) about their role and they were also able to help me with my java programming. Doing this helped me to achieve a better grade at university.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I take part in weekly football. This involves graduates as well as apprentices and this takes place after work. I am able to meet new people and also have fun which I think is very beneficial to have at a work place environment. This also keeps me active on a weekly basis.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Yes, because it is a very useful course that effectively helps young people to progress from college/university to start a full time job. The apprenticeship has a lot of benefits and also also helps with learning new things for example coding and business skills. I have been able to learn new things and meet new people.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • I would say to be yourself. Barclays are looking for honest hardworking people who have an interest in the apprenticeship. If you are interested, show it and more than likely you will be offered the job. I also think that it helps to learn about the company, things such as the values.
