  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I register customers for cash and cheque products, I also take queries over the phone from customers. We log discrepancies that customers have when depositing cash and speak to different cash centres to try and fin out what has happened. We also do daily tasks such as send out discrepancy letters and making sure none of our systems have had failures.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I feel that I have developed my customer service skills, with speaking to customers and internal agents daily. I think my IT skills have also improved as I am using a range of different systems daily and doing different things on spreadsheets. I also think I can now speak and write more professionally from contently being in a professional environment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy learning new things and the fact that I get to do it on the job as well, I find that easier to relate to new things. However I feel that we have not had out apprenticeship explained to us very well, and we have had no real structure since we started. We don't know what deadlines we have and it took us 3 months before we were even signed on.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think that the programme is very poorly organised, that is just from my experience. It took months for us to be even introduce of signed on to the people at Knowledge pool, and then a further 2 months for us to get any log on's to start our work. This will mean a delay in us finishing our course. Even now when we are signed on I feel there isn't much support from the people at Knowledge Pool as we are unsure of deadlines and when our next meetings will be.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer, my team and team leader always make sure I have enough time to do my apprentice work. Time is always plotted in for me if I have apprentice meeting to attend and they always make sure I have the time I need. All of the managers are very supporting to and are constantly asking how my work is coming along and are always there to help with any problems.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have not had much support as of yet, we are still in the process of being properly assigned to someone even though we started in September. We have had a few meetings but with never anything following up from it. They have also been brief and never had a regulatory about them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Since we haven't had much training from Knowledge pool I can't really say. We don't have constant communication with our provider so many meetings are not arranged. Any training I have received have been from my team and from Barclays staff, the training we have received from them gas been very useful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are lots of things to get involved in. There are constantly things being put onto our daily news to tell us things that are available to get involved in. We are always encouraged to get involved with as much as we can as a means of developing ourselves.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think they are a very good company to work for. There are lots of different opportunities which are open to everyone, they treat all their staff very fairly and believe in constantly recognising their staff for the work they have done. They are very supporting of things you do inside and outside of work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • To include as much as they can on their CV, and then to prepare well for the interview. Also to try and include things they may have done outside a work environment and any hobbies they have. Also to have a look into what type of job they are applying for and research what that role would include, so they have some knowledge prior to the interview.
