On a day to day basis I deal with client queries in regards to their personal tax issues when moving overseas. So for example someone moving from England to Japan. We deal with the issues in regards to where their tax liability will arise and what reliefs may apply to them.
I have learnt many skills in my time here especially as an inexperienced apprentice. I have learnt simple communication skills with members of my team ranging from juniors all the way up to seniors, how to conduct formal telephone conversations with clients and how to write professional emails to them.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my programme from the experience of a formal workplace with a relaxed culture to an in depth study of tax with an external training provider. Meeting some people on my course has brought me the most enjoyment as you get to meet people from a range of cultures.
There could definitely be some improvements in terms of communication from the professional qualification side of things. However, overall the communication has been clear and well communicated. There is always a point of contact if you're ever unsure and you have your assigned training coaches if you ever need the support.
The support received from my employer ranges across many different levels, from having a support buddy for day to day help to a career coach for more long term guided support, as well as a training coach for the exam side of things. There's always the colleagues who are ever ready to support you so the support is definitely there.
We have regular catch up calls once a quarter to track progress and to discuss any issues we may have. They are very capable in intervening should the need ever arise and always ensure the support is available should you require it. So the level of support is certainly high.
My qualification is very specific to my day to day work, which is one of the issues I had of working at school as I found things to be irrelevant. So it's great to have a qualification which is directly applicable to my day to day work and relevant.
There are groups and activities running all the time across different teams and across different sectors. we also have a firm wide app which encourages others to get involved with extra curricular activities. It's also very easy to set something up yourself with peers if you ever wanted to.
Yes
Working at PwC, I've found the flexibility something not commonly found in other workplaces which is one of the greatest things a firm could offer. It has a really relaxed culture encouraging everyone to express themselves as who they are. Working from home is something really convenient especially when you have an appointment etc.
When applying, be sure to conduct thorough research in the role and the firm. Through every stage of the process be authentic to who you are and try your best. Remember the importance of reaching out to others and perhaps even reach out to an employee via Linked in or other social media sites.
