  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves supplying customers with an financial advice specifically in relation to mortgages. This involves conducting interviews with clients as well as the administration and after sale care that is involved throughout the home buying process. An average day will see me meeting with three customers each day with an aim to process as many mortgage applications as possible.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my knowledge significantly around leadership within an organisation the theories, models and tools that I have learnt about have helped me to grow as a person and changed the way that I view and approach life in general. In particular I have developed my skills for reflective thinking, researching and evaluating data in a critical way.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has taken up a lot of my time and has been stressful at times with deadlines, workloads and home life all pulling in different directions. That being said this programme has been a pleasure to be part of, I have learnt so much and had my view of the world broadened in such a way that I now have the confidence to make significant changes to my career that i previously would not of had the confidence to produce.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation and structure of the course have been really easy to follow and I would suggest it is an exemplary standard to which other such programmes should aspire to be. The course leader has been energetic, enthusiastic and communicated clearly throughout the programme and made it a much more enjoyable experience than could have otherwise been.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Mt employer allows me the agreed amount of time to study for my qualifications and it has never been difficult to get help when required. My employer also covers all expenses for the programme and I have had nothing but support throughout the programme in this respect. I would however question how much value my employer finds in the knowledge that I have gained. At no point have I been asked to share what I have learnt and this seems odd to me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Again, I receive all of the support I can ask for. My tutor or administrator will often reply back to one of my emails within 1-2 days or pick up the phone to ask what I need. This programme is run to a very high standard and I would recommend it to everyone.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Currently I feel that it has only benefited me from a personal point of view as it has allowed me to consider what is important to me and helped me work out my next career step. The qualification itself does not aid my current role in anyway but it has shaped me for future roles.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are extra-curricular events that I can take part in through work although these are not the easiest thing in the world to find out about, it is only through extensive searching that I was able to find these events. My personal view is that there is more available for other sections of the business.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • There are many perks to working for Barclays including the programme I am currently on however as an employee I do not feel valued within the organisation and this is something that degree programme has trained me to realise. On the surface, things look good however it is the behaviours and values of the business that I do not agree with.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • I would advise that when joining Barclays that you have a strong idea of what your career goals are and also that use as many of the internal tools and training programmes as you possibly can. You will do well in Barclays if you are proactive and seek to improve your situation.
