I am a Junior Project Manager, but I also work within PMO as a Programme Planner. In my Project Management role, I am currently managing a Cloud Upgrade with the help of a Senior Project Manager, this involves managing the project plan, managing client expectations through Project Boards and keeping them in the 'know' whenever I get an update and making sure the work is getting complete. I also programme plan and make a POAP each week to show how the programme is delivering.
I was able to go on Microsoft Project training for 2 days in London and this has helped me greatly with becoming more efficient with project plans. I have also learned to manage client expectations and be able to talk confidently in front of the client. I have figured out how to fully understand and utilise a pivot table on Excel
I fairly enjoy the programme I am on, although, I do feel as I could be given more work to better fill my time and benefit the programme more. I enjoyed the Project Management Apprenticeship and felt it showed me a lot of techniques that I have related back to work.
The programme is well organised and structured and has improved ever since the Management Meeting has been set up. From my perspective, this meeting allows all Managers to review their projects and raise any concerns so that they may be rectified. I don't get enough view of anything else to have an opinion on this.
I received support from my employer through my apprenticeship where I was able to learn the basics of Project Management, I then also got to take part in the training days for Microsoft Project Plan and this enabled me to be able to use Microsoft Project Plan correctly and efficiently.
I received support from QA when I was going through my apprenticeship, as and when I needed it, Allen was always able to help me when needed and would also make everything easier to understand to which I was able to answer the questions confidently. QA were very accommodating when needing support
I feel I am able to better understand the role of Project Management than when I originally applied, I know that it is all about managing the people and budget to ensure that the project delivers on time. I often see myself reverting back to the QA book when stuck.
As we live in the Scottish Borders there is not a large amount of activities to get involved in. I was on the social committee but had to drop out due to other commitments and the activities were more around fundraising by bake sales, buffets and Christmas jumpers for £1
Yes
CGI is a company that has allowed me to get a qualification while also learning how to handle working life, they have always been very flexible with my working hours when I need and have provided me with a lot of ways to improve my skills and be able to use them more efficiently
I would advise that they sign up for the PPP straight away, as I didn't the first year I was here and I would also advise to look into the training that is available to all members and they is always a training budget that does not get used up
