  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Calling customer on an outbound dialler and provide solutions to financially help them. We aim to keep cuistomers as Barclays Premier customers by financially reviewing them and considering ways to improve their situation and make or save them money. This was the case at the start of the job role.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • no. It was understood that as a person applying for the Barclays apprenticeship programme that I would eventually go on to learn new skills which they claim were transferable. This is simply not the case. I have had to learn a book inside out with no support and most of my time is taken up justifying our apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It is not what I expected. I was told the apprenticeship would benefit me and that Barclays care about the apprentice programme. I have found this to be completely untrue and find myself justifying a lot regarding the apprentice programme. If I knew from the start I would not have taken the programme on.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Poorly. There is a severe lack of support and there is nothing in place apart from the talent coach. At the start of the programme I was not given the proper equipment and materials. I was also in 3 months before I had access to some sites required. it is not recommended.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • They are trying to remove the study days. The support is non existent. I feel the talent coach tries to help but everything else falls on deaf ears. The people who are in charge but not part of the apprentice programme don't understand the workload or/and the challenges.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • She is overworked and it is very difficult. She tries to help. I feel there is no personal help. I have raised concerns about personal development with people and nothing has been done. I feel our talent coach tries to help but the stress she is under is enormous. No support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It is totally different. We were told so much more about the qualification which simply isn't true. I feel as well as others do that it was completely mis-sold, As stated before, I would not have started the programme if I knew how it really was. Hope it changes for the better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is no offline time. We are told there should be time but it simply does not exist. They only care about bumbs on seats. I can understand why, but it makes any EC activities impossible. It is something I feel could benefit everyone evolved and would help morale greatly.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • They mis-sold the job and I am contently seeing colleagues stressed due to demands. There are targets ina non targeted environment. It is lead poorly from the top down. No one cares about work life balance especially the stress caused by the demands of the role. It is not a nice environment.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Don't. It is not as promised. They reel you in with false promises and job descriptions.
