I am a market development consultant and this means that I work in marketing. My job is to check through events that we might be interested in r our clients may want o attend and organise attending them and in the event that we are going to be presenting create a presentation fit for the audience.
While working for CGI I have learnt many skills some of which I had very little knowledge of prior to my role. For instance, I worked as a junior project manager for a few months and this taught me finances and managing projects, Further to this CGI allows me to develop my soft skills.
I enjoy working for CGI however I feel the training provider is very bad and does not value us as its clients. The frequently treat us as if we are children despite the fact that each of us are working professionals and ignore the feedback we give them as if it is invalidated by our age.
The programme is incredibly poorly organised. Frequently we are not enrolled on the correct courses, we have been scheduled excluding lunch breaks so that we work continuously from 9am to 7pm on uni days. Further to this lecturers that are provided are so poor that we have to request new people.
I receive a lot of support from my current manager. This has not always been the case. In the event that you get a tough manager they can eat away at your personal study time, refusing to give you overtime pay and showing a reckless disregard for our uni assignments.
We do not receive support from our training provider in regards to working for our qualifications. When we ask for assistance we are often being told it will be handled for the years to come but we must suffer. Further to this the team that liase with the training provider ensure that threat tactics are implemented in the event we speak up.
I believe the courses we do are entirely irrelevant to the workplace unless you are in a tech role. This is because we are working in the environment being taught about and thus have a far greater insight into the field than the theory we are learning. due to the fact theory is irrelevant anymore,
There are many socials in work and this really helped me when I first joined to get out and about and meet new people. The company also pay for numerous outings and this helps the ethos in the workplace to thrive as we all know each other from less formal situations.
Yes
CGI are a fantastic first job. However the apprenticeship programme is an absolute joke and things need to change drastically. I believe the apprenticeship can be greatly improved by a new university being elected to take the students and new management within the companies student recruitment to ensure that we don't all leave when we finish the degree as is the consensus.
Apply by all means for roles on the graduate scheme. do not apply for the apprenticeships provided as you will not receive adequate support and it will put unnecessary strain on you emotionally, financially and physically. I also believe that this place should be a stepping stone onto higher things as they will not raise your pay in line with competition.
