  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to help and support customers who come in, whether that is to help them with their everyday banking or to help them with an enquiry. I am on the counter terminal the majority of the time but also out in the banking hall ready to greet them when they walk in.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned and developed many skills whilst working with Barclays. I feel as though my confidence levels have rose and I have learnt so many different processes and procedures. When a customer comes in I am normally always able to help them but if I am not too sure I know where to go if I need extra guidance. I feel like I can have a good quality conversation with customers.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do really enjoy my programme because it has made me grow as an individual, I am more confident and I have had members of staff who have supported me so much along the way too. I came to the job because I wanted a change, I was sick and tired of doing the same thing each day and I really enjoy how each customer is different and each enquiry is too.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This is one thing that I haven't felt is so good because although I have had support from my colleagues and managers, I feel like I haven't had much from my tutor. I feel messed around as my tutor went on MAT leave so got put with a new one and I just feel like he doesn't really care and he never replies to my emails, doesn't turn up to see me and just never have regular meetings.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has given me set time for apprenticeship work and I feel like they have supported me and helped me a lot. Whenever I needed extra help or some time for my work they would sort that out for me. My manager also regularly checks up on me to make sure I am okay and on track.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I feel like I have really just completed everything on my own. I feel like I have had little to no support from my training provider. My first one went off for MAT leave and the one I currently have never replies to my emails which makes me think that he doesn't care.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gives me a little bit more depth into banking which makes me more confident and then I feel better talking to customers about it. I find it really interesting and I can then talk to customers about things like the FSCS etc. For example I had Barclays training regarding life insurance policies and because of the apprenticeship revision I did regarding life insurance it helped me understand and answer the questions.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At the moment no but it is something that I am currently looking into with my manager. I am hoping to help organise/ be a part of something to raise money with my £ for £ which means Barclays would match whatever I would raise. I am hoping to get something organised soon.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is such a good experience and you just learn so much. It is professional and I really enjoy learning new things. Everyone here is so friendly and I have definitely made some friends. I have developed my confidence so much and I have grown up . I feel really motivated and want to help.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Give it a go you have nothing to loose. Make sure that it is something you really want to do and you feel motivated. You need to be easy going and able to make conversation not just about the weather but also regarding life moments and sharing customer messages. Work hard and you will be rewarded. Smile and be friendly.
