I work in an agile team, I have a regular 'stand-up' meeting everyday at 10am which I currently run, this is time for everyone in the team to report the status of their work and if there are any blockers etc. Apart from that I then pick up a ticket and work on developments of a feature on a website. e.g We may be looking to bring a blog feature to the website, it is my jib to code using css js html and a react framework to bring the feature to life.
In short absolutely loads. I've learned scrum methodology techniques which I use in daily stand ups, and fortnightly review and retrospective sessions. I have also learned loads of technical skills. As a front end dev I have learned to code proficiently in html, css and javascript whilst using a react framework. I've learned multiple other front end developer skills and methodologies such as mobile first development and responsive web design to name a few.
As much as I can enjoy a job that isn't playing football I think! I enjoy going to work, have a team and manager around me that are always supporting and encouraging my development which helps loads. I've also developed a really keen interest in front end developing which helps
Very well structured and never felt uncomfortable or unsure who to speak to about any issues. Only complaints are with the unnecessary tasks and work given by the apprenticeship team. Tasks such as group presentations with other apprentices or solo presentations feel like a waste of time and a distraction from my job. What's the point of me doing presentations to the apprentice team about my job or made up circumstances when I present on a regular basis as part of my team - very unnecessary and can be a frustrating add to work load at peak times!
Lots - my manager is really helpful and are always supported my progression and development. There is an internal apprenticeship team which are always helpful if needed. Finally the university are helpful who I have termly meetings with the liaison staff are always helpful and is good to receive updates on progression
Training provided provide a fair amount of support. I have a liason who I have termly meetings with face to face, in this we discuss university progress, progress at work and what targets I can set and what to improve upon. My manager also comes to this meeting to monitor my progress at uni.
So far not really, Lots of the work has been a basic level which doesn't come into my day to day job especially the first year. In my second year there are some project management principles that I've learned that could become useful - although I think the final two years in my qualification should become more relevant to everyday work.
Yes. On location there is a gym, tennis courts and lots of playing fields. Throughout my time at barclays I have been involved in weekly football, charity bubble football, cricket games a football match and more. There are tag rugby teams at lunch, and the gym provides a range of sessions.
Yes
Always supporting career development and supporting promotions internally, there are lots of roles available and therefore I think a job for everyone's skill set. Competitive salary. Lots of perks to the job such as gym on location, pension scheme, private healthcare. Also it's a really nice location and a global company which gives potential to work abroad or work trips.
Be confident in the assessment center, it's not hard if you are calm and good under pressure. In terms of interview read up about the Barclays values! In the assessment center there are a range of tasks and you are always monitored so act professionally throughout. In my own experiance having work experiance at similar organisations really helped me in the interview, also previous assessment centers helped me to gain understanding of what assessors are looking for.
