Field based role where I visit and support the Postmasters in my Area to grow and build their business.Offering support to anything Post Office. I am their direct contact with the business. I have 107 branches many of them have never had a direct contact since starting the business
Understanding the Retail side of the Postmasters business is new to me. Communication skills are called in to play everyday and the way that I deal with potential confrontational situations where there is a negativity towards the buisness. Customer Service skills are key and have to be at the forefront.
I am learning the understanding around the theories of the Retail World not just from my own business eyes, its great to be able to further my knowledge and understanding. Being able to transfer learning into everyday working situations. Being able to test my own knowledge and understanding is great
has been challenging to sometimes relate the learnings to the subject matter as the Post Office is a unique business and this has made me and my trainer think outside the box. Fitting everything in has also been a challenge due to the nature of my job and its demands
Post Office Apprenticeship team are very supportive and encouraging - the issues have been at local level - i.e. Line Manages understanding that although there is work done in own time some can be also taken from my working hours to support the programme - this doesn't happen - better understanding needed at this level
If I need to go to my provider he will offer support and to help with the Maths and English side there was help to get me through that part of the programme. I tend to work on my own and then ask for the additional support if I feel that I have missed the point in the topic being studied.
It isnt easy as yet to see how this will support my current role - maybe the Retail side will be a benefit but as the new role is so different to the one prior to April this year - where I managed a team as well as driving business it is difficult to say
we have networking events but these tend to be London based and this is always convenient for me. Locally there are social events held and there is in some regions sports teams I believe. The business encourages their colleagues to embark on activities to support charities. the Post Office is a diverse and inclusive business
Yes

Anyone looking for a challenge the Post Office will offer you that. Come with enthusiasm and drive. if you want to make a difference and be part of the community to help and support our Post masters and customers then the Post Office is the place you should be.
