  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am in two roles which are Recruitment and Talent. I go to college one day a week to learn all about HR and get the chance to do our assignments. My split role works so I have 2 days with Recruitment and 2 days with Talent. In recruitment, I help sift CV's, I telephone interview people and decide whether to put them through to an assessment centre, I also sometimes help with interviewing and taking notes. In Talent I help support the apprentices and their programme, I look at the levy and how much is being took for each apprentice, ook at providers etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before I came to Sage I struggled with my self confidence and confidence within my work. Coming to Sage was the best thing for me, I developed many skills whilst being here. However, I would say I have developed my confidence the most, when I first started I wouldn't even answer the phone but now I'm doing telephone interviews for candidates.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I think my programme is very good. I think this because it allows you to have experience in the job and also learn about it at the same time. My other option was University after I finished college, although I did not want to go as I wanted to get out in the real world and get the relevant experience for being in HR and understand it for myself. Sage allowed me to do this and I really enjoy what I do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is organised, however it did have a slow start and that is why I only rated it an 8. This had nothing to do with Sage's organisation it was more the providers, 2 providers we were meant to be enrolled into were not suitable due to certain circumstances. We were meant to start in October on our apprenticeship and we didn't end up starting until January. Other than that slight hiccup the programme is structured.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive the support I need from my colleagues and also my manager. My manager and my colleagues are the reason my confidence has grew which I think has effected my work in a good way. My manager is always there if I have any worries or queries and she will help in any way she can

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from Northern Skills and also Newcastle College. At Sage Northern Skills have a point of contact for apprentices, Amanda has supported me with settling in at college and if I have any queries she will always be happy to answer them. Newcastle College have reviews with us and goes through our grades, progress and makes sure to answer any of our questions and gives us any updates

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gives you awareness and knowledge for different departments, as I have only had exposure to two departments and some people have only been in one. I find it really interesting and really enjoy learning what certain roles do and what their roles entails. I also think learning about certain things in my roles as well is helpful and helps you implement what you learn into your job role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of teams within Sage that you can get involved in such as; choir, Sage Foundation, the gym and Equality and Diversity team. I think having lots of clubs in the business is effective as it allows people to get involved and meet people with similar interests as them.
