Threat Intelligence Analyst Review

My role includes understanding the threat landscape and briefing clients on any trends that I have been able to notice. I also attend regular client meetings to provide support on the service we are providing. I monitor clients assets and report on them when they need to be raised and also help mitigate any events that may have occurred.

I have learnt many skills whilst being in this role, I already had a basic understanding of some tools however, I have been taught many new skills and been able to expanded on some. Here are some examples: Linux, bash scripting, python, malware reverse engineering, threat hunting, OSINT techniques, Forensics, technical report writing, bids and client presentations.

CGI has given me an opportunity that I would not of had if I didn't do this apprenticeship scheme. There is a a huge support network to support my career and also most CGI members are supportive of Sponsored Degree Students and they are really interested in how we handle the work life balance. The university days can be very long but you learn everything that is needed to help with the assignments or exams.

The degree apprenticeship is well structured as from week one at university you know all the hand in deadlines for all your modules. CGI also provide you with a work place mentor from CGI that supports you and can help with organising the work load and introducing you to other CGI members that could provide help. The University of Winchester staff team are always available support, you can email them anytime and they usually respond within the hour (some within minutes).

CGI has provided support throughout my apprenticeship such as student workshops before starting your dissertation from the Student Recruitment Team (SRT). The SRT are always around the office and if you need anything you email the SRT and they will help as much as they can. This has been really helpful for myself. I have multiple managers since starting at CGI and some have been very supportive in helping me with my career and personal development plan and also pushing me to achieve. However, some have not been as good but having a good manger is really helpful when starting as an apprentice.

I receive a lot of support from the university when I ask for it. It is really good when you can drop an email and ask a question or just call up and go over any content that was difficult for clarification. However, some lectures are more difficult to communicate with and may not reply at all.

I believe some modules have helped me more than others as some modules I have undertaken were not very useful to my role however I have learnt skills for the future that may be needed to support my career and journey. However, it would be good for more relevant modules to roles.

Yes, CGI has a sports and social club that can be joined for a monthly fee and you can go to an of the events at the different locations for free with some having the option to bring a plus one. Some projects also do events where you can go out with your team and enjoy time together outside working hours.

My experience with CGI has been positive for my first role in a global organisation. I have support from VPs in developing and building my career in Cyber and many other opportunities available. Everyone around you is wanting to help you succeed and start building your career and offers their support and advice. Doing this scheme allows for you to realise you can take on a large work load and really organise and balance your time, team mates and management will respect that and understand how hard working we are.

Really look into who CGI are and what they have helped develop or implement into the world. When going to an interview make sure you speak up and share your ideas also ask questions to the members who are around as they will love sharing their career path with you since working at CGI. I would also try and attend an event where CGI are such as career events, school events or university open evenings as it gives you a chance to meet some members and ask them questions before going through the application process.
