I work predominately on certificate provisioning. Working on all aspects of certificates within the company, including issuing them, maintaining and dealing with expiring certificates. With over 40,000 certificates there is an extreme work load to ensure all are compliant with bank standards and issued in the correct way to work.
Yes, based purely around the role I perform daily I have learnt a lot generally about digital certificates as well as more specifically how this companies system works to provision the certificates. I have development skills around communication with colleagues, dealing with over seas colleagues as well as face to face.
I really enjoy the programme I am on. The university course I do in conjunction with my job fits in well, I chose a cyber security route with university so what I learn in the class room fits in well with what I do on a day to day basis at work.
The programme is well organised, with clear communication from my liaison tutor from the university and regular face to face meetings I am aware of what is going on when. However I would say there is a poor communication with regards to the individual modules and what is expected and when.
A lot. When needed it is there however I am allowed to do a lot of independent work. I have regular one to one meetings with my manager discussing both work and university. I am pleased with the level of support I receive from my employer over all, I think it works well for my personality.
A relative amount, it is dependent on my tutor. Some seem to be more available for help then others and I think that is noticed in the grades I have received so far. However over all I would say the support I receive is a good amount for the work load.
In my case, well. The pathway I have chosen at university is very specific to my job role however I am aware this is not the case for everyone. I am please with how my qualification helps me perform at work. If it isn't specifically the piece of work I am working on, it allows an over view of what my wider team do.
Yes, a lot of sporting events including rugby, football tennis and the gym. These are all a chance to network with colleagues. There are also regular networking events, usually divided between the different office floors to allow you to network with all other colleagues on site and as well around the globe.
Yes
Overall a very good apprenticeship, good qualification from it and an excellent place to work over all. Benefit at work are hard to find in an organisation and Barclay's have a lot of them. The training provider, Manchester Met Uni works well in conjunction and has clear communication with Barclays.
Ensure you have an idea of the role you want to join, don't be afraid to ask to change roles if you aren't happy however give whatever role you are put in a try as you will learn something from it even if it is indirectly regarding the team.
