My job roles is split into two parts - half of my week is spent organizing the startup and close-down of projects, and communicating with project managers on the success of this. The other half of my week is spent analyzing and updating sales forecasts and all the different project and services that our company aids in.
I have learnt new skills especially in Excel, as I am often required to use this programme for various spreadsheets. I also have developed my public speaking and organisational skills, as I am often required to speak in large meetings with project mangers, and it is crucial that I organise my work for it to make sense to myself and others.
I do enjoy my programme, because I am getting a variety of different tasks within my day-to-day job role, meaning that each day is a little bit different. I also really like working on this simultaneously with my university work, as I find that this practical experience can really help.
Our programme is fairly organied and structured, as our week is split up into seperate university and working days - so Mondays is set aside just for attending university or working on university assignments from home -and Tuesdays to Fridays is set aside for work to do with our job roles
I receive a fair amount of support from my employer, as I have weekly calls with my manager to discuss the tasks that I have been getting on with from day to day, the things that I could get more involved with in the future, and anything that I want to raise (concerns)
I receive support from my university lecturers in the form of support and guidance with my assignments. This helps me to develop skills that I might have a little difficulty with (e.g. referencing - this is something that I am not particuarly used to yet as University is the first time I have had to do this) and this guidance can be really useful.
My qualification helps me to perform better in my role because I can apply some of the same skills that I am developing in university (such as organisation and communication skills) to my actual role, which is particularly useful. We also have a module called Work Based Studies which helps to bridge the gap between university and the workplace.
There are many extra-curricular activities that we can take part in at work, football and netball clubs, for example. I take part in a club called the Sports and Social club, which means that I can get involved with local clubs or events for free or for a heavily subsidised price, which is a great opportunity to socialise.
Yes
I would recommend to a friend because it is a great way to gain experience in the workplace whilst also benefiting from a degree. Doing both at the same time allows you to use them in conjunction with each other - for example I can use practices from work in my University work, and skills I develop at uni can aid me in the workplace.
I would advise anyone applying for CGI should make sure this is the right path for them by doing lots of research. They should then ensure to make the most out of every opportunity, as there are always opportunities for progression. Networking is really important aswell, the more people you know and connect with the better.
