My role is to support our client facing colleagues with general admin tasks so they can focus on providing a outstanding service to our clients. My daily tasks involve working on projects, printing and scanning documents, archiving documents from engagements, creating bank letters, booking meeting rooms, liaising with PAs and helping out at events.
My confidence has definitely grown since being on this apprenticeship as I have had to communicate with a wide variety of people from other apprentices, to senior managers, to partners. As a result, my communication skills have also improved. A new skill I would say I have learnt is how to liaise with clientele in a professional and formal way.
I enjoy the programme because it gives you the opportunity to rotate into several of KPMGs KBS departments so you really get to see and understand how the business operates and supports our client facing colleagues. It is also good because you get one day a week study leave to focus and work on coursework for the apprenticeship.
I would say the programme is very well organised as prior to starting the course we were given all mission start dates and submission dates so we knew from the start the structure of the course. We were also given dates for webinars and face-to-face sessions prior to joining so we knew when to expect these.
I receive a huge amount of support from my employer in several ways. Firstly, I have a performance manager who I have regular catch ups with to check in on how I'm getting on and how I am feeling. Secondly, they are very catering towards any unexpected or last minute webinars or learning sessions and encourage you to always attend even if work is busy.
I receive lots of support again from BPP as there is an email address that we can email at any time if we need help with anything. They also set up calls every so often, again to check on progress and to see whether you are struggling, which sometimes includes your manager so they can both be on the same page with where you are at on the course.
In a way I feel the qualification helps me to perform better in my role as I have to be involved in more things to meet the criteria - for example, taking minutes in a meeting. However, I don't believe the qualification helps me to perform much better in my role.
There are several different extra-curricular activities to get involved in here at KPMG. For example, there are many sports teams (football, skiing), public speaking groups, engagement teams regularly have socials, which is where the team all go out together outside of work and many more such as charity events and fund raising.
Yes
I would recommend KPMG to a friend because they offer rotational apprenticeships which gives you the opportunity to try the different departments if you do not know what you want to do. After this, you can then specialise in the area you enjoy. Another reason I would recommend KPMG is because it is so easy to move around - you aren't stuck in one department. This is because KPMG are open to allowing you to try different things and encourage you to be the best you can.
Apply as soon as possible as it works on a first come first serve basis. Read up on KPMGs behavioural capabilities as this is what the interview is based around. Networking is key when working at KPMG and no question is a silly question. Also look at our values as these are very important to us. Lastly, be yourself - KPMG hire all walks of life and encourage individuality.
