my role is a very practical role as we are on our feet all day apart from break time. my role on a day-to-day basis involves concreting, hand digging, pipe laying and drainage mainly but there is other bits. we also have to keep the site clean as a health and safety precaution.
I have learnt a set of various new skills while I have been working on site at Bentleys. I work with a lot of different people therefore my teamwork skills have improved massively as I have had to learn to get on with them. I have also improved my social skills massively by talking to people on site.
I enjoy working on site a lot and like going to college on a Wednesday to learn new things. I have made some good mates on this course and on site. I like working out on site a lot because I get to learn new things in the construction industry whilst I am doing it.
my programme is very well organised. all of the personal protective equipment I need is provided by the company. they have all of the jobs on site that you are doing in the briefing so that you know what you are doing and they leave you to just get on with it. college is organised on a Wednesday as we come in and do our work with the help of our tutor.
I receive good support from my employer because when your stuck with the work on site you can ask someone and then they will help you so you can learn while they help you. they say that it is always better to ask them for their help whilst doing the task so nothing goes wrong.
we all get the support that we need whilst were at college on a Wednesday. if we need some help with our diploma work then our tutor will sit down with us and help us so we can get it done to the best standard that we can. we even get a bit of help on our NVQ work as well.
I think that it helps me to perform better in my job role as I can put my knowledge into my work as I will know a bit more as I will have learnt a bit more than I knew with my tutor at college. it also helps as I can sometime suggest different ways to do stuff.
there is some extra curricular activities that you can get involved in. we play football against each other just for a bit of a laugh some nights. there is a cycle to work scheme that they do. they give you money to get a bike so that you can cycle to work and then you pay it back each week out of your wage. there also is a social event at Christmas time where most of the employees go out.
Yes
I would recommend jn Bentley to a friend because they are a reliable company to work for that will always have work for you no matter what. it is a very enjoyable place to work as there is a good laugh on site with the other lads and it is good work to be involved in as it keeps you physically fit.
my tips for anyone that is thinking on applying for a job at jn Bentleys is to just be up to do the work and have a good attitude towards the work and the company because it is a really good company to work for. and if you get the job then be prepared to have a good laugh but be serious and have a good attitude towards the work.
