  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • So far we study as any other student would on our course. We have a responsibility to inform PwC on what we are doing at university and give feedback on our overall well being (through meetings at certain times of the year and through learning logs). We have also attended events at the office a few times to meet other people in the company.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • A lot of our skills have been developed through workshops and events held by PwC. We often have representatives from the company to tell us a bit about what they do so we can learn more. Although, some new skills have been developed based around the company policies so we know what is expected of us within the company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much have enjoyed my time this year. The content we learn at uni is relevant and it ties in nicely with what skills we will be using in PwC. Everyone we have met from the company has been very helpful and have taught us more about what they do - they have made us all feel involved.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program has been well thought out and the structure of it makes it easy for us to gain experience as an employee whilst allowing us to also enjoy our university experience. We have been placed in groups with other people on the program for tutorials and this has proven helpful. We have also received support throughout the program from both the university and PwC.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We do receive support through frequent engagements with other PwC employees who can point us in the right direction when needed. Everyone seems happy to help us and they care for our well being, organising social events outside of work too. Communications with them are easy and support can be accessed at any time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor is always willing to help us if we ever need him. We have weekly meetings as a group to talk about any problems we may have and he will always try to guide us in the right direction and give us clarification on our work. In general, the university is supportive to all of its students.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Through completing a degree alongside the apprenticeship we are able to learn more specific details in our area that can then be used in a work environment. It is a way to prove that we have the knowledge needed in order to perform our job correctly and helps us feel more confident as a result.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have been able to partake in office events fairly often if they fit around our university study. We have had the opportunity to attend guest speaker events alongside charity events organised by other employees (sports, quizzes etc). Other opportunities to create events ourselves have also arisen. We have also been able to help out at recruitment events for next year.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • In my year as an apprentice I have been made to feel welcome and comfortable by everyone i have been able to meet. Their degree apprenticeships are well organised and allow for a good balance between university study and time in the office. I have been able to achieve a great deal through being given support and assurance throughout.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Be yourself in your application but do some research into what the role entails beforehand. Take advantage of preparation web sessions so you know what to expect from the interview. When your get there just try your best in all that you do and do not be afraid to ask for support when needed because people are always happy to help. You will never be expected to know everything right from the start as you are there to learn. Also, take every opportunity that is offered to you as they really do help you gain a footing in the workplace.
