  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • We study as a normal university computer science student would. On top of this we work in the summer for PwC and complete 2 10 week placements and a full year placement (in what would be third year). We also attend online seminars and can help out with recruitment and ambassador roles

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned many skills to do with working with people. I have used a lot of team work skills but also leadership skills as well. Taking up an ambassador role has allowed me to help lead and shape the apprenticeship while recruitment roles have allowed me to develop my people skills when talking to potential applicants at events

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my programme. The people who we work with are amazing. They are so so helpful in both pastoral and professional ways. We also have socials with both university circles and work circles. These are both really amazing groups to hang around with and you can always count on having fun.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our program is very well structured. I am part of the first cohort of the programme so we are still helping to shape and mould the scheme. All of the vital parts have worked seamlessly though and the experience has only been getting better with our input. They always listen to what we have to say and improve based on that.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We get a career coach, buddy and a programme manager. These are all really vital people in our university and work lives. Our buddy’s are people who work in the company and they help to make sure we are settled fine and all of our questions are answered. The program manager helps make sure everything is working and is our main liaison.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The university helps loads. They treat us just like any other students and give all the support that we are entitled to. All of the lectures are really good along with lab classes, workshops, seminars and lunch time drop ins. The lecturers are also really helpful if you go and find them during office hours

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The degree is very well linked to the role we will be performing at PwC both through placements and in the future if I continue work with them. We also have the Webex sessions which help make our lecture material relevant in the place of work. This will help us integrate our knowledge into a team at PwC.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We attend networking events at PwC. These can help us to meet people at all stages and from all areas of the company. We also get to join societies through the university as any other student would. These can be really great ways to make new friends and learn skills.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It’s an amazing opportunity that I would recommend to anyone. They’ve been the number 1 graduate employer for 15 years running and you can see why. Plus with a funded degree and all of the support we get given I really don’t see a downfall to the scheme.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Join early and be yourself. PwC look for professional people who can work well in a team and who can work under pressure as that is what they do daily. If you are someone who can do these things then you have nothing to worry about. Just apply and be yourself.
