  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is entirely being a student at the university of Birmingham. The only work is during the summer break and in my third year. I’m am requires to solely focus on my studies to get the best possible education. All that’s asked is to keep Pwc up to date on how I’m doing during tripartite meetings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills from being allowed to have the full university experience as well as an employer. I have been allowed to learn how to live on my own and balance studies with pleasure. Additionally I have learnt a lot about artificial intelligence logic and computation, data structures and algorithms as well as a few skills in business organisation and management and financial analysis.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my program the course content is interesting and I’m allowed to teach myself in the way that suits me best. There is plenty of free time to socialise and have the full university experience while not having to worry financially. I’ve been able to make many new friends and go out with them and enjoy the campus and all it has to offer.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured really well and suits the course. The computer science based modules are heavily based on course work which is desirable as in most cases that is how work would be done, and is the most accurate way to measure someone’s performance in this type of course specifically.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have been given access to a pwc associate for any questions I have. Additionally there is a messenger group chat with a member of pwc who is very responsive and answers any questions asked by any of the degree apprentices. All member of the company have been very supportive and easy to communicate with.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lots of support is offered through out the whole course and for every module. There are many help sessions offered and all the lecturers have office hours where they allow any student to come in and ask any students they have. We also have personal tutors who cater to small groups of students and answer any questions we have a about the uni or uni life.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It feels really suited to a role in computer science. Currently the degree is quite broad fro AI to financial analysis but all models are enjoyable and seem very well suited to the roles I want to be in. Furthermore the basic task of managing studies feels very important to having a productive work ethic.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are teams for almost every sport possible. There are many facilities such as tennis and basket ball courts. There is also a table tennis table I frequent with a friend in the main area in Shackleton. The method of booking seems partially flawed though because I have been unable to attend any sessions after weeks of trying to find out how it works and going into the sports centre multiple times.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It’s a very supportive company and is willing to put a lot of faith into its potential employees. The monetary support aside it is a very well respected company and offers amazing potential growth as an employee and as a person. It also has a very enticing promotional ladder that allows you to improve and be rewarded for it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Research a lot about pwc make sure it’s a company that interests you. Thy appreciate passion so make sure you’re excited about what you’re talking about and you know a lot about the course. Be able to back up reasons why you want to join the course because I’m sure after this first year it will be very competitive.
