My role is a fibre engineer. This involves travelling all over Essex and surrounding areas installing fibre equipment to houses and businesses. Typical day to day jobs include cabling, stripping, laying in and splicing fibres together to be able to creating a live fibre network from the exchange right into a customers premises.
i have learnt many new skills since starting my new role. I have learnt how to manage my work load and prioritise work. I have learnt manual skills such as setting up a work space, use power drills and strip cables. I have also developed my driving skills as my role includes a lot of driving.
I enjoy my working programme so much. This is the first job I can honestly say that I always enjoy coming to work. I have not once woken up and dreaded coming to work. Everyday is a different challenge and that's what makes it so interesting. Everyday is different and that's what excites me.
The content of my programme is very good and the structure is ok. I have encounter problems with NVQ days such as not starting my study days until 5 months in to my program and also my NVQ day study rooms being very unorganised. This has meant on occasions our group as been spread across 3 rooms and days have been cancelled and re planned at the last minute. This means as I coming to the end of my programme they are trying to cram all the remaining days in.
I must say that in this job I have received the most support and guidance from my manager over any other job I have had. He is always ringing around and making sure everything is ok and if you contact him he always gets back to you or answers the phone straight away.
The training provider or our assessor who sits in and our NVQ days is good. He always response to your emails and he is regularly checking your working and contacting you advising you what to do. On the NVQ he is always there to help and support you with the work.
To be completely honest the qualification does not really support my role. it is a relevant qualification however it does not give any knowledge on your role. it is just a general overview and the telecoms world. It does not specify on the roles so I would say that it does not support my role at all.
There has been many extra-curricular activities to get involved in. mainly professional networking events that take place very regularly. However our team is very social and we do a few social activities together. I would like there to be more sports teams within our work however I have yet to find any.
Yes
This is the best job I have ever had the variety and outdoor working is amazing. it is a great job to develop your manual skills such as using a screwdriver or power drill. This job gives you a great sense of freedom that you wont find in any other job
Be yourself, Be confident and apply yourself and listen to everything and take as much as you can in. When you go to the assessment days make sure you listen, be polite and answer and do as much as you can. if you do this you should be fine. Also when doing the video interview make sure you use the practises
