Currently I am moving between teams in the Messaging and SharePoint division of Barclays Collaboration Services. Starting with service management and currently sitting with the messaging team before moving onto the SharePoint team. Day to day I am creating reports and visualizations based on metrics that the team are interested in for the business to review.
Yes, although I have only completed one block of learning with the training provider (QA) I have been able to spend time during my work day learning skill that will help me day to day. We are given full access to PluralSight which has a wealth of courses work related and otherwise to look into. Also speaking to and learning from my peers based on what they found useful when they were starting with Barclays.
The work is constantly interesting, I am always looking into new avenues to work down. The culture in the workplace is very relaxed and focused on being productive without being micromanaged. It exceeded my expectations of facilities and technology. The team I work in are very supportive and knowledgeable, they are always ready to help if I don't know who to ask for help.
The support structure is fantastic, if ever I am struggling I have 5 points of contact to speak to about various aspects of my program to help me as and when I need it. Study time on the job is not only allowed but actively encouraged as is learning new skills related to the job role. The learning provider QA has been excellent in its active role with apprentices.
The accessibility of support is great, being able to talk to my support structure team via Skype or email or even just walking over for a chat over coffee has been excellent. The attitude towards supporting me has always been positive. Guidance with problems has been on the whole very good.
The training provider support has been excellent so far, fast responses from my skills coach and high quality tutorials when on block release to achieve the learning outcomes set at the start of the course. The tutor I had was excellent at explaining key concepts and making sure the students understood those concepts before moving on.
The learning has so far helped me to understand some of the core concepts around the functions of the technology for the department in which I work. Although I am not directly interacting with the equipment, I understand how it works to an extent that allows me to understand how my job role impacts those colleagues around me.
I regularly play in the divisional squash league in a freshly refurbished and well maintained squash court on site. I regularly help out at a technology robots session where local schools bring students to get some basic programming knowledge. There are also other clubs events and activities on and off site.
Yes
As an employer they have been excellent, clear with pay and job responsibilities. The facilities are great and the rewards for being employed by Barclays are great too. The fact there is a branch on site really helps with banking as does the on site mortgage adviser who has helped me personally.
Although it may seem intimidating at first be confident in yourself and your ability, make sure that you show your passion for whichever department you are looking to get involved with. If you have an assessment day as part of your application process make sure you get involved and give 100 percent on the day even if you feel intimidated by the experience. The people are lovely and everyone is in the same boat.
