Coordination of Corporate Banking Diversity Council and support of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) iniatives. Involves: creating decks, prepping for Steering Committees, taking minutes, keeping an action log, onboarding new members, supporting internal communications, being a champion for D&I knowledge, taking part in key projects (e.g. video production, event planning, value proposition), monitoring training completion, creating slides for town halls/ other events etc. With the exception of the monthly meetings that I manage, my daily activites can differ greatly. I also support the Trade & Working Capital team that I sit in as a business manager. This involves further work with communciations, including organising speakers slides and conference requirements for large monthly calls, creating documents for various purposes, working with Marketing on external award submissions, and several other adminisation tasks for my team such as logging headcount or costs.
- General administration skills - Communication, especially in the context of a corporate organisation - Improved time management and organisation - Stakeholder management - Developed technology skills and improved Microsoft capabailties - Delivering presentations and pitching proposals - Managing event logistics
I enjoy many of the tasks I undertake, find my role very interesting and have learned a great deal. I really enjoy being able to manage my own time and the independance that the organisation gives me. On the whole, the people I work with are friendly and supportive. I've also enjoyed and am grateful for the amount of opportunities that have been opened up to me through my apprenticeship. On the other hand, sometimes a lack of support has made me stressed, especially within the first few months of my programme. Because I did not join as part of a cohort and the people I work with don't sit in a single team, I felt a bit isolated in the beginning. I find my diploma work quite boring and not particularly enjoyable. The only other thing I would mention is that sometimes the culture in the office can be too heirachal and corporate - for me it is a bit stifling, and I don't like how much focus there is on grade.
I feel that my programme was not particularly well organised, perhaps because I have a newly created, one-off role as opposed to joining on a cohort. My induction was not the best, and I was moved around after my first week. The team I went into weren't well briefed on how to support me and what the nature of my role was, and there wasn't any communication from the apprenticeship team or the external training provider for several months, so my line manager was limited in how well she could support me. The team I sit in, the role I have and the qualification I am studying do not marry up very well. For example, my main role is D&I, but I do not sit in HR with the Group D&I team, and have had little contact with them throughout my programme. Meetings with the external training provider have been somewhat sporadic. Over time, the organisation of my programme has improved, but it has not been the smoothest. My team is very supportive in letting me manage my calendar to block out time for diploma work.
My line manager is excellent and my colleagues have been very supportive. The organisation itself has lots of support resources available to colleagues and the flexible working initiatives are really good. Due to a mistake in the internal apprenticeship team, I have not recieved any support from them until very recently (I only have a few months left of my apprenticeship). Since they have had me on file, over the past few weeks I have recieved good support and advice for getting my next role.
The support has been somewhat sporadic. Meetings have not been held as regularly as they should have been and at times I have found it difficult to contact my talent coach. The system I use to track progress is a bit outdated and difficult to work with. However, in general, the support is fine. My talent coach is helpful with explaining assignments and answering my queries.
I don't feel that my qualification has added much to my performance and I don't think I have learned that much from it. I find the assignments quite repetetive. A lot of the content covered I already know.
There are quite a lot of activities, such as team building and socials. I have been able to attend lots of different events which I have found really interesting and there is always something going on. A lot of these are run through internal diversity networks and there are lots of networking events about pressing topics in society, cultural celebrations etc. A few examples of events I have attended include: - Unconscious Bias seminar - International Women's Day Apprentice Event at the National Gallery - World Cultural Day event - Mental Health Panel event One of the best things I have been able to get involved in is a charity called the Access Project as part of our Shared Growth agenda. I tutor a GCSE student Spanish weekly and find the experience really rewarding and enjoyable.

The business is fast-paced and interesting, there are a great deal of opportunities to progress, especially at 1CP (global HQ). The Dynamic Working offered by Barclays is brilliant. Employees are treated fairly and you get to work with some great people.
Take advantage of all of the opportunites offered here, build a good network and use it to help you learn about the business.
