I head up all marketing and events for Barclays intermediaries (mortgage brokers). This also involves managing a team of two. I manage all advertising, event management and marketing communications to promote Barclays mortgages to brokers so we are their first choice of lender for their clients. I negiotiate with suppliers to get the best deal for us, manage a £1m+ budget and a stock warehouse.
I have learnt how to question other more effectively I have learnt how to become a better leader I have learnt how to manage my time more effectively I have learnt how to be a better communicator I have learnt how to think of my job and role in the wider context of the business
I do enjoy learning, however I have not enjoyed large breaks between assignments and then lots of deadlines in one go. Felt it wasn't consistent. Also the marks from the lectures - some were incredibly generous with 95% scores - when others were morew average. Therefore impled some lectureres were a "soft" touch.
Cranfield and Barclays communications seemed to have broken down quite early on, on he course. We haven't been too fully aware as a cohort what was coming next and the timescales - these change quite frequently. The lectureres have all been quite competent and I felt i hyave learnt a lot.
I received support in time off and for respecting the needs of the course. However the HR team centrally have been quite poor with communication. They once got on a cohort call with us to effectively tell us that they would be havig words with us on grades or talking about Barclays to our lecturers which I felt waws out of order and showed inexperience.
I get significiant time off from Barclays I don't really understand here who is my training provider - as I only interact with Cranfield or Barclays so don't know who my training provider is separate to these two entities.
It has allowed me to get greater confidence in my role and has helped me deal with team dynamics more effectively. It has allowed me to gain a broader view of the business. It has also helped me gain exposure in teams I would not have had access with before.
Not really no. I do a lot of things extra-curricular but not through Barclays. I can't really write 50 words on this when I don't participate in anything! Not really no. Yes
It's a great place to work. They look after you and help you with what you want to do. My friends working for other companies do not seem to have the freedom or responsibility that I seem to have. plus I really enjoy my job and role.
Research the role, research the industry. There is lots of options at Barclays in that you can start doing one role and end up in a completely different department role, so aim to just get your foot in the door. Act like you want the job and fake confidence if needed!
