  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently, I have just started with a new team within the BBEST team, So I am working on the old process that apprentices do, and also some training when it can be fitted in. On a normal day, I will sort out the post that comes into the BBEST team, sending documents to the relevant teams. I will then do either print and post or postal closures for the remainder of the day

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Within the 6 months I have been at Barclays I have learnt roughly 5 processes. These are print and post (sending fact sheets, Liquidations to the customer or the liquidator). I have also done postal closures (Closing customers business accounts). Striking off processes and intended dissolutions. I have also been trained on handling all the post that comes in to the BBEST team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme as it allows me to learn and earn money at the same time. The programme I am on allows me to improve the skills I previously had but also develop and learn new skills. As I swap teams throughout BBEST it will also allow me to understand what all the teams on my floor do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is organised a degree, we are all monitored and have regular meetings with our apprentice Leader so we are able to keep on track with our programme. There are parts of the programme that seems to be not so organised as there are weeks where we aren't developing are skills but spending days doing print and post and postal closure.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a really good support level at Barclays as there are various things that Barclays offer for different circumstances. If we are struggling with something our Leaders will generally do what they can to help and if they don't know what to do to resolve an issue, they will find someone who knows what to do.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • In terms of our provider, we do not receive much from them as we don't tend to have contact with external providers, we have people within Barclays who manage and help with our development. There are occasions that we receive emails but we don't have them to hand everyday if we needed them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think that through our programme provider, we receive guidelines and information on how we need to progress through our apprenticeship. This is then relayed to our Team Leaders and apprentice people at Barclays for what we should be doing and when we move areas to develop our learning and understanding of Barclays and BBEST.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many opportunities at Barclays that we can take part in. Things such as Lifeskills, this is where children from local schools come in and we can take them on a tour of the site and inform them about what we do at Barclays. There is also opportunities to do sales for charities to raise money, things such as Bake Sales and sweet sales.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend Barclays as it is a really friendly and rewarding place. Every achievement you have or make is rewarded and recognised by your team and your team leader. Barclays is a great place to develop or learn new skills in an engaging and positive way. furthermore, Barclays do so much to help you in any way they can.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • To anyone who was applying to Barclays I would say that they must be really enthusiastic about learning new skills as there is a lot to this job. They also must like Customer service work as there is a lot of communication between Barclays staff and all of our customers.
