I am preparing payments and payment remittances for suppliers. Reconciling statements at the end of each month. I am taking care of the investigation payment inconsistencies or overbillings. I also take care of liaising with other teams in the business to provide information, and I am preparing various daily, weekly and monthly reports,
During my apprenticeship, I was offered multiple opportunities to learn new things, I could use the knowledge gained on the course in practice. The company provided me with a good variety of many different tasks to help me develop myself in more than one area. Additional training was offered if I ever needed any
I really enjoy my apprenticeship, the company makes me feel valued and the fact that I am working and learning at the same time really helps me stay motivated. Booking.com is very supportive of our learning and open to my needs as an apprentice. I was able to organise my workload depending on the schedule of the course and I never came across any problems from my employer
The programme is organised quite well, however, there's a lack of information on the Kaplan side regarding what's the next step after each milestone. You need to make sure to do a lot of research and ask as many questions as necessary to get to the bottom of what's expected from you at each stage. The programme should take a minimum of 12 months, but in practice it's 1,5 year for most. In my opinion this could really be all done withing 9-12months if organised well.
My company was nothing but supportive of my learning, manager, colleagues, and the learning and development team are really doing anything that they can to help me get through my study. In the finance department, I am surrounded by people who finished the same or similar courses and are happy to help if I have any questions. My manager is on board with my learning and provides me with all the time and tips that I need to complete my course. Our learning department is really great in supporting us, they adress any concerns in no time and you can really tell that they really want us to succeed
Kaplan is trying to give us the best that they can, however, it feels like they have a little bit of administrative mess - some documents I needed to provide multiple times and sometimes was hard to get an answer to specific questions. However, mistakes happen everywhere, and they were happy to help with any problems and do their best to support me on the journey. The classroom teachers were great and always ready to help and the tutor (or talent coach) put time and effort to help me prepare for my assesments
Accounting qualification is a really great advantage in any finance role and opens many doors. Better understanding that I gain from training makes me more valuable on the job market, helps me understand better the bigger picture of what the department is doing. Learning also helped me understand how I can improve our processes at work, so I could provide valuable suggestions to my manager and help solve problems.
Booking.com is a great company to work for, you can really feel a sense of community working here. All colleagues love socialising and there are multiple events for all employees each year. On the facebook for work we can find coworkers with similar interests and join other smaller social events - badminton, hiking, running. Finance department itself is a buch of people who love socialising and every couple of months we are doing something together.
Yes
It's a great place to be at, company is going trough big changes now and there are plenty opportunities to grow. It feels great to be a part of a such a great global brand, and all of us feel very proud to work here. At the same time, even though it's a big company, you don't feel like just a number, but there are people who care about you as a person.
If at first, you don't succeed - keep trying. I had to apply twice to get into the company and for internal promotions. Company is growing fast and there will be opportunities coming up all the time, so there's no point to give up after just one go. Stay focused on what you want and go for it
