I provide advice to clients in relation to Indirect Taxes. This mostly involves providing advice on VAT. I currently provide advice across different sectors of business from pharmaceuticals to financial service businesses. I also provide some compliance services which includes the preparation and submission of VAT returns. Recently a lot of my work has involved advice on Brexit and MTD.
I have developed various existing skills and leant new skills since starting my role. These include: - Business writing skills - drafting emails and client deliverables have contributed to this significantly; - Communication skills - working with different team members and clients has contributed to these skills. This includes attending meetings and my presence in the office generally.
I enjoy my day to day role due to the challenging nature, as well as the variety of work that I do. I enjoy that no day is the same, and that the projects I take part in are never straight forward. I find the apprenticeship itself less enjoyable compared to my day to day role.
My training at work is very well structured, especially the courses that I have participated in. However, the apprenticeship itself is less organised and structured. I have found that it is not clear what is expected of me. Further to this, the scheme itself has not been transparent. It would have been useful to have been given a break down of the scheme early on in the course.
I have found that my employer is not fully aware of the structure of the apprenticeship, and that there is a lack of communication between the course provider and my employer. This has meant that those that are in a position to support me in the apprenticeship are unsure of their role and position. As a result, they are unable to offer much support.
I found that initially there was a lack of support from the training provider. The apprenticeship itself was never fully explained to me prior to being signed up to the scheme. There was a lack of communication around what the scheme was and what I would be required to do. There has since been more communication around pieces of work I need to complete, however the bigger picture and long term requirements are unclear.
I find that the ACA/CTA qualifications help me perform in my role significantly better. However, the apprenticeship itself has not helped me perform in my role. I have found it to be time consuming, and it is not clear what benefit I will derive from it. I feel that due to the lack of communication around the apprenticeship, I have not been given any addition time to carry out the extra work that the apprenticeship requires. As such, it is making my role more challenging.
Yes, there are various extra activities to get involved in. There are several sports teams in our office from football, to netball and tag rugby. There are also various volunteering activities. My employer is very open to us starting our own extra-curricular activities in the office, and getting the whole team involved from games sessions to competitions.

Deloitte has a wide range of opportunities to offer. The training that Deloitte itself organises and provides is excellent. The people at the firm are very friendly and are always supportive of you. Everyone works well as a team and are willing to help and offer knowledge wherever you need it.
To ensure they research the role, and find the department that will suits them best. Also to get involved in as much as they can at the office. I would recommend taking advantage of all of the opportunities available from working in different offices, to secondments and sports tours in other countries.
