My role is a mechanical and electrical engineer apprentice, what I do each day isn't really ever the same some days I could be on site other days I could be in the office. one example of what I may do Is drop tests or pressure logging, shadowing someone else doing the test until I am able to go and do it myself.
Yes! I've learnt lots of new skills and developed them such as communication, when you are in an environment you've not been in before it may seem scary but everyone here also knows it may seem scary so they invite you in and make you feel like you've worked here for years, which I think is good especially for an apprentice.
I enjoy the programme very much! It's something new which is the main thing, as an apprentice you're learning something new everyday and that's what makes it fun! Everyone here is always happy to help you if you're stuck with a question. Everything is a challenge which makes the job more exciting.
The programme is structured very well, both college and onsite work. The team I am with are great! There is always a site you can go to and get some onsite experience. Also the college course is great, we go through the science and maths side of electrics which is very interesting because you find out what electricity really is!
As much support as needed, no one is ever bothered about you asking questions they would much rather you ask a question than see you struggle with a task, there are also other ways of support such as mental health. I think that's a great way to make everyone feel at ease knowing they can speak to someone whenever they need.
The training provider is amazing, the work set is always straight forward from what we have learnt that day. If you're ever stuck on a question they are always happy to help you, even if you ask whilst you are on the subject it is not an issue, they prefer you to ask questions rather than struggle.
It gives you more confidence when doing a job because you may have been over that subject and already know how to carry the work out. Also knowing what electricity is and how it works is a big help, some people won't know much about electricity but when you've learnt it with the training providers it makes it easier.
There are plenty of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work, such as 5 a side, bowling, lunch and learn. There are many more activities you can take part in these are just a few. I think all of them are a great idea because it allows you to socialise with people you have never met before and make new friends.
Yes
The reason I would invite a friend to JNB is because I feel it is a great environment to be in, everyone Is extra positive with the work that is produced which makes it more enjoyable to be in. You always feel supported when you're doing a task and always can ask questions about the task.
Be ready to learn! Don't be worried about asking questions which may seem easy to answer, everyone was at the same level at one point. You won't know everything straight away it will take time to learn. If you get something wrong don't worry just ask someone for some help everyone here is happy to!
