Currently I work in Sub-assembly at Plant Swindon where I carry out maintenance on robots. This involves PLC programming, mechanical and electrical fault finding as well as general routine maintenance checks. It is the shifts responsibility to maintain production at all times and keep each cell operating.
I have learnt a vast amount of skills to include; welding, programming, pnuematics, hydrualics, electrical installation, PLCs, turning and milling as well as developing my theory based knowledge with eletrical principles, mehanical principles, maths etc.
I have learnt a lot from the apprenticeship, pratically and theory wise. I have also worked with a number of different people to help develop my people skills further. The apprenticehsip is very demanding which i did not expect quite as much.
There were a number of issues with the trailblazer program set by the government espeically given we were the first year at Swindon to do the trailblazer apprenticeship. The work load changed dramatically and there were a number of time contraints that could of been minimised.
There was always support when required, however there is an expectation to work within your own authority and diligently.
Support is always there when required
I have applied a number of things taught throughout my BTEC and HNC to the workplace, especially when learning the PLCs and programming.
Every year BMW group take part in the mountain challenge and other charitable events are held.
