  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently part of a team who handles documentation. I am working on a configuration piece of software and currently fix a lot of issues that com up when people use this software. Alongside this I am using agile methodology where I have to stand ups, huddles and using of software such as jira to keep our work up to date.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes plenty. I have improved my communication skills, have learnt how to work in an agile environment as well as improving my computing knowledge. I am currently learning thunderhead and javascript. The agile environment is great as it lets you work actively in part of a team and improves how you communicate. But it also means you have your own individual and integral part in the team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it a lot due to the people I work with, who are helping me to grow and improve my skills, but I also love the work that I am currently involved in. Its something new to me that I have not done before so its really pushing me out of my comfort zone and I love that.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship itself started off very slow. I joined the company in October but the apprenticeship itself didn't start till April, meaning there was a big period of waiting to know what the course contained. However, upon starting the course has been great and really allowed for me to know what is expected of me.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot, im part of a team that is very tight knit. My line manager is always there to assist me if there are things I don't understand and also is willing to help with parts of my apprenticeship. The product owner is also great and communicates well so I know what is expected, whilst assisting me in learning new software.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We are always advised to give them a call if there is something we don't get which is great, we have been assigned projects which to begin with weren't too clear in how we do this. But upon asking for more assistance it has been made clear to me what is expected and how to complete them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is a huge part of the course and will allow for me to know massively what is expected. I am yet to currently undertake any of their courses and will be doing so soon (which will allow a better explanation) but from this point I am currently at I know the learning's will allow for me to excel more as more software and learning's are cleared up and taught.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are plenty of events that allow for this. I have attended two software engineering events that have been hosted by my employer alongside a tri monthly whole office meeting that we host where each team gives updates on what they have achieved and what they are aiming for. Its allowed for me to meet new people a variety of times.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Lloyds Banking Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Its a great company to work for and the teams that you get put into all work like a family and are all close. The people who work here always want to help and will continually push each other further to achieve the best they possibly can. The company also wants to push its employees to have a variety of trainings and this has allowed for me to learn new softwares and gain more qualifications.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lloyds Banking Group?
  • My tips would be that when new people join Lloyds not to be afraid, the people are always helpful and want to make sure you can achieve the best you possibly can. if you have issues with things then always ask as no one bites and people love it when you ask questions and show a genuine interest. Its a great place to work.
