On a day to day basis I work on individual calculations within a team of around 8 for each client. So all day I am working with people in my team to do calculations, this is what you do for the first year. The second year involves more complex things such as accounting, valuations and much more.
I have learnt many actuarial skills which is mainly about how to do individual calculations and parts of the valuation so far in my apprenticeship. I have also developed existing skills such as communicating with fellow colleagues and keeping on top of my work. Most importantly I have seen how a company works which is extremely useful!
The people at WTW are great to work with, everyone is so friendly and happy to help! They have helped me progress in the right time and manner, which has meant I have learnt a lot about actuarial work. The Socials are great and a good place to meet colleagues you might not work with.
The apprenticeship program at WTW for the actuarial analyst started in 2017 of which I was 3 months after the first intake. They were learning about the apprenticeship as much as we were but they coped really well and were able to help us with any questions we had about the apprenticeship.
I felt the employer gave a lot of support to the apprentices with the actual work and the study. We were given 18 study days which is well above the average amount. In work the employees are really helpful with the work, making sure we understand the work that is given to us.
We get given 3 tutorial days which is given by one tutor to around 5-10 students depending on the size of the intake. They also encourage us to ask questions about anything we are unsure and I usually get a response within a day. Overall very helpful when helping us with the qualifications.
I feel at the moment the qualification doesn't help too much. however in the future when I start to get more involved with different work, I will use the qualification more and more. Also I have only studied for two exams so far, more actuarial work may come through later
Every week there are football games for anyone in the Redhill/Reigate office to get involved in. We are also part of the Corporate games which is help at a university every year for large companies to get involved in. The socials are very good with most having some sort of alcohol paid for!
Yes
It is a great company to work for! Friendly, relaxing and a fun place to work at. It has taken me into the working world very well! The benefits are very good especially the social aspect. The company itself try to look after everyone with the flexible working too, which is helpful to most!
I would make sure you find out why you are joining the company, make sure this is the right company for you! Also do your research about the company. Talk about some of your hobbies too, it is a great talking point and shows you more than just your grades.
