First year is full time in college to learn practical and theory for the job role you learn a variety of things both practical and theoretical to be applied into the workplace , electrical mechanical, maintenance fluid power milling Turning planning risk assessments health and safety ... btec level 3 and then a degree
Learnt a lot in this first year more than I have in the last three years . I came in knowing nothing about engineering but now my knowledge has expanded greatly and I am no more competent in many engineering activities . I have developed in both practical and theoretical engineering applications
I greatly enjoy the apprenticeship as it has given me opportunity to learn meet new people, gain experience earn money drive a company car start a pension fund get a degree and have a job at the end of it . It is a great opportunity for any young people pursuing engineering
The programme is quite well organised working a standard working schedule with a timetable with a variety of mixed practical and theory days , tend to build a routine but does occasionally change as modules change , however working hours are always pretty much the same . You know when you are meant to be at work
Decent support is given where required even thought we are mainly at the college on a daily basis we have reviews on progress and where we need help from the employer , they also check that the college is providing what they should be to us and that all is going wrll
Support given to us to ensure we are learning and putting in the correct amount of work throughout the course . They check progress and inform how we are going well or need to improve. They would towards us getting our qualifications finished in time as we do more than one
Not started the job role yet so not sure however I feel it has improved my understanding of engineering greatly I feel that now I understand how a lot of disciplines work fundamentally and I know testing health and safety procedures , maintenance and planning I am better equipped for work
Not sure , gym is available at the workplace for employers but other than that not that I am aware of , however you do make friends that you can meet up with out of work and in the beginning of the apprenticeship you go on a residential trip to south of uk
Yes
Good way to gain experience qualifications and afford to live at the same time while getting a degree and many other benefits young people usually can’t get . It’s a great route into industry and engineering in general . I have enjoyed it a lot so far and would recommend
Try your hardest and be yourself don’t be afraid to apply and ask questions , you never know unless you try, go to the open evening and see the plant for yourself and consider if it something you would like to do in the future and would enjoy working there
