Test Engineer Review

On the current project I am working on I'm a Defect Manager, this involves managing any defects (errors) logged within the project and getting the correct people to resolve the issue. Everyday I have to give an update on all defects and if there are any critical defects I need to say what needs to happen in order for the issue to be resolved. I also do some generic testing (executing test scripts)

I continually improve on my interpersonal skills everyday, especially as my job involves a lot of communication. I've also learnt Java and SQL (coding languages) to a good standard as well using software such as Jira. Finally, my confidence in travelling around the UK as grown immensely (the variety of locations to travel to in Cap is something I love).

So far so good. Although at the start of the apprenticeship I felt like I wasn't given enough information (to feel relaxed) on how my first few months would work, I now feel comfortable in what I do and enjoy myself everyday - it is honestly exciting to wake up for work knowing what I do! The induction week if great and really welcomes you into the company. I personally would of preferred to know what I would be doing that week and after beforehand, as opposed to on the day.

There is a tonne of support provided. Not only do I feel confident asking anyone on my project for help but I have a buddy, reviewer and manager who check if i'm happy and okay - as well as this I have my friends within the company who I can ask anything!

My only experience so far is the Skills Coach I talk to from Aston, they are very supportive and helpful ( i see them every 6-8 weeks in person). During my time at the uni i did find the lectures helpful - the delivery method for teaching was good for improving programming skills (but hard)

As I am less than 6 months into my apprenticeship I cannot given a detailed answer, however, my programming skills have greatly improved (I had been exposed to a bit before Cap). Therefore, only a slight relevance to my job so far. Exuding my training provide, Cap offer training for your specific role which is great

Recently, there was the opportunity to create a rugby 7s team for a tag tournament. There is also social events after work every month (whole team). For those staying in hotels during work there will always be someone to get dinner with. There are also lots of volunteering opportunities for everyone.

As I just mentioned, they embrace diversity so make sure to be yourself as it will make you a more appealing candidate (don't lie and be honest!). Make sure you do your research about the company, why you want to join and why Cap really appeals to you (for me it was company culture, support and values - they made me think the company would look after me and provide an exciting career, which they do). I would also recommend looking into a role you may be interested in and where you would see yourself in 5 years, regardless of how vague it is. Finally, be prepared for question in the interview (TargetJobs/glassdoor)
