  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an account handler, I speak directly with clients or other colleagues within willis to ascertain their companies policy requirements. I then speak with insurers and get the most appropriate cover in place as per the client's request. This is then followed up by administration tasks and query resolution.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have worked in customer facing roles for the past 3 years however this job has really helped to develop these as not only do I have to speak with colleagues daily to ask for assistance when necessary, but I also have regular discussions with insurers and clients who may not know much about insurance.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • This programme is well suited to me as the work and study balance is at a good level. It is at a point where I can focus on important work and get it resolved then study rather than being unable to balance the two. This is because we get given study books to use in our own time which I find very useful.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There are regular workshops which help keep us focused on the exams ad study aspects of the course rather than solely focusing on the work side of things. When completing coursework as well as studying, these workshops make sure that we are up to date and where we need to be regarding this.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Within my team my colleagues are always willing to help and assist whenever I have a question. Outside of my team the company has employees that are there to provide assistance; the growth company also have employees who support and help apprentices where necessary. Fortunately there is no end of support in this role

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As stated above, the growth company (our training provider) have skills coaches which work on a one on one basis with the apprentices. This is very helpful in providing support as queries can be raised if necessary and they ensure you are best prepared to pass the qualification we are studying for.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Initially the amount of information from work and from study was overwhelming and didn't seem to link. However as my role has progressed and I have learnt more I can see the similarities. The information learnt in workshops and through reading the exam books help me better understand the work I do on a daily basis and assists me in explaining it to direct clients.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Willis Towers Watson offers a large amount of activities to the best of my knowledge, most times this is for charity events. This is well advertised to all employees of the company through regular emails although I personally am yet to get involved in these activities, other than organising a charity day with the other apprentices.

  • 9a. Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The support and career progression opportunities provided by the company are the best that I have encountered in my professional career. The company offers a range of incentives and all colleagues are welcoming and help make the job much easier and more enjoyable. The support provided when trying to obtain qualifications is also very helpful.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
  • Make sure that you do your research, not only on the company itself but the business unit you will be working in; because each business unit specialise in different things and work in very different ways. Although this is explained to you throughout your time here it is worth going in knowing what to expect.
