My current rotation is in pensions admin, so on a day-to-day basis I will be given tasks to update letters that are being sent out to members of the pensions schemes we are administrators for. I will also calculate their pension depending on what type of pension they decide to take.
I have learned a lot about presenting skills and communicating with others and communicating with the client was very important during my audit rotation. I have also learned how to develop my planning skills as I can have many tasks at once to complete, so time management is a key skill to develop.
I enjoy my programme as their is a chance to rotate around the business before I specialise, therefore giving me a chance to feel comfortable within my career choice. This has also gives me insight into the different areas within KPMG and I can appreciate all the roles people have within the firm.
The programme is well organised although rotations depend on business need so some placements within the areas of the business might not be available for you to rotate to when you would like. The programme structure is communicated clearly with us from the start so we are all aware the paths we can choose.
There is support from KPMG and your specific teams as they understand many of us have joined straight from school. They put a lot into developing our skills, like forums where the apprentices come together and present group projects to each other to develop our presentation and group working skills.
My training provider provides support in a variety of ways, from teachers in the class to online forums where we can submit questions remotely to be answered once the class teaching has finished. The training materials provided state the content clearly and there are a wide range of methods and resources available for us to learn from.
The qualification is mostly relevant if you're working in audit as you get more of a chance to put skills into practise and gain an understanding of the content you have learned. Although the qualification is helpful overall as it gives you an understanding of how businesses run generally.
There are many different activities to get involved in, many departments have monthly social events to attend. On a wider scale there are societies and clubs to join including a skiing club. KPMG also get involved in local and charity events. Recently there was a bike ride in aid of NSPCC.
Yes
I would recommend KPMG to a friend as it is a great place to learn about the profession. Upon joining the firm you are given lots of training and your teams are more than happy to help if you are ever in doubt on parts of your work. There is also a great chance of career progression.
I would advise someone applying to KPMG to review the nine key capabilities that KPMG have as my interview questions were predominantly based on these. During the interview make sure you can think of a example to base your answer off to show the interviewer how you have actioned or enhanced are skill that you can use within the job.
