I work within the Aviation team at Willis Towers Watson. I work with both new enquiries as well as current business to the company. This helps prepare me for work once I have completed my apprentice qualification. This involves me contacting several Insurers across London and overseas markets, depending on the appetite for the risk present.
I have been able to develop my organisation and time management skills within my job. Without these skills I would be unable to keep all clients up to date with the situations with their business. I have also been able to develop my confidence as my understanding of the role has improved.
The programme is really good. You get a few months to ease yourself in, and then you are given your own work to take on, while being mentored. It is a really good experience and prepares you for once the programme is finished. It is a challenging environment that keeps you motivated.
The organisation of our workshops is good as they are spread out, which gives you time to study as you don't get much opportunity to do any work during the day for the apprenticeship due to the workload. They also help prepare you for your coursework which is good.
We receive a lot of support from Willis through our own departments as well as the growth company. We are provided with workshops in order to help us study towards our professional qualifications. Whereas in our team we have a mentor and people we can ask specific questions to depending on where they specialise.
We have workshops that take place every few weeks in preparation for the exams. We also have quarterly Skype meeting calls for if we are having any issues to raise them in this so they can be resolved. After your first year you also have 1 to 1 meetings with someone from the growth company.
I believe the qualification benefits you in your knowledge towards general insurance and the London market. The workshops gives you a greater understanding due to using real life examples. This can help due to us being able to put these examples into our day to day working environment within our specific teams.
There are a number of activities that take place within Willis. There is a young professional group which gives you exposure to colleagues from loads of different departments and helps you learn more about everyone's different roles within the company. There are also Q and A sessions which are hosted which allows you to anonymously ask your question which will then be answered by an expert.
Yes
It is a very good working environment and everyone is given the opportunity to take part in a load of different activities. You are always able to ask for help and it is a great place to develop your knowledge of the insurance industry. There are a lot of different opportunities across all teams.
I would suggest for them to be confident and not to be afraid to ask questions. This is because no question is a stupid question. I would suggest for them to make sure they write notes on everything and to always make sure they take into account or processes and structures in place.
