  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as part of the Willis Re Specialty P&C team in which I complete the role of a Broker Support and Account Handler. My daily tasks include; generating the supporting documents to a placement and ensuring all compliance standards are met and also processing and monitoring premium payments.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through this role I have been able to further develop my skills in communication, team work and the importance of time management/ prioritisation and efficiency in work. Skills which I have acquired from this job role include; a detailed understanding of the internal procedures which must be complied with to meet WTW standards.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has been beneficial in allowing me to gain a qualification alongside my everyday job role. Through the use of workshops and our external training providers assistance I have been able to gain my certificate in Insurance. This programme has ensured my development within the business is continuous and positive through a personal development programme in which all apprentices are enrolled on when joining the company.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In respect of the study aspect to the programme, this is well structured through a series of 8 3 hour workshops all about the content of the course. We also have regular meetings arranged with our skills coaches which has been beneficial to ensure all candidates remain on their set targets.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • WTW has allowed all candidates the opportunity to attend all sessions/ events associated with our apprenticeship programme. Such support has therefore allowed me to make the most of the programme in which I am on and has ensured my development within the company is a priority to my self development.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our training provider runs a series of sessions for each module studied. Such sessions run over the content of the text to ensure all apprentices have a full understanding of the module - the company has also set deadlines/ timelines to ensure all candidates remain on target which has been beneficial in ensuring we are effective as possible in gaining our qualifications.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The modules selected for us by our provider have been tailored specifically to our job roles and therefore has great relevance to our everyday roles. Such additional knowledge has been beneficial in maximising my development within my everyday role but has also allowed me to gain an understanding on aspects in which I do not specifically deal with on a day to day basis.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • WTW continuously runs social events in which all colleagues are welcome to get involved in. Specifically as apprentices, we are expected to have a large involvement in the WTW charity days and help organise/ run these. Such experiences therefore allows us to meet new individuals and have some involvement in the events taking place within WTW.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • My experience at WTW has been nothing but positive. The opportunity to gain a qualification alongside full time employment has been most beneficial to my personal development. Despite only being with the company for only 9 months the progression and opportunities I have been exposed to has been outstanding. The core values of the company are most definitely exceeded by all.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
  • It is important to take into consideration that with this apprenticeship programme you are expected to gain a qualification alongside full time employment. It is therefore essential for candidates to join the company with the correct mindset and be willing to put in the extra time to maximise their personal development needs.
