My role as as an apprentice consist of completing various amounts of jobs sometimes at different locations which require some form of competence being able to carry out tasks set by my mentor. Some will be straight forward some will be challenging, but rewarding. It will involve mechanical jobs e.g. pump repairs/rebuild or electrical issues and fault testing. You will not complete these on your own as an apprentice but will be thrown in the deep end in taking part
Certainly, I learned lots of new things within my first week of the job as mentioned before you do get challenged but you also get support for anything new. My mechanical skill and electrical knowledge have improved since starting this apprenticeship. I have also become more confident in myself believing I can get things done rather than writing off the challenge straight away.
It’s an experience and opportunity I am glad I went for and to be a part of. The trust and access we have to such high end equipment and machinery opens up your mind to how jobs get done with the access of great tools and help from mentors. I’m addition the freedom allows you to learn and express how you work and can aid in confidence building.
It is fairly organised considering the amount of apprentices there is and our needs are taken seriously as much as anyone else which is reassuring. The support of managers and regular contact maintains a good relationship as well as feedback on what can be worked to improve throughout the years
The support is adequate as we are always reminded or contacted by our employer regarding work and even our wellbeing making sure we are okay. I hope this approach continues as it allows me to know I’ll always be supported and even other employees from other sites offer help with any work
The support from college is excellent cannot fault anything apart from the workload! But that comes with the job and the support with that is also good. Tutors always offer their time to help expressing they are always around for questions or assistance and also the professional relationship allows you to trust and not feel scared to ask for help.
The tasks and jobs we face in the college workshop are not easy they are challenging but I love them sometimes intimidates you as you wonder how you will get it done but once focused, follow instructions it becomes a breeze and enjoyable and the end results are always rewarding
I believe we are required to complete some sort of voluntary work in aid of charity twice a year throughout the apprenticeship taking time out to help and give back through fun activities or sometimes team bonding trips. This all helps with cohesion throughout the organisation bring people together and working together and
Yes
I believe it’s the best start you can have to begin your career within this industry and hereafter. You are well looked after with lots of opportunity to excell whether being st the company or elsewhere. The structure and supportive setup reassures you are safe and secure working for Thames water
I would advice anyone applying or wanting to, to go for it. Thames Water are always open to give you chance once you prove you will work to the best of your ability completing tasks to top standard and I’m professional safe manor abiding by company terms conditions and rules
