  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to sell IT into a number of customers that range from 10 users up to well over 200. I have to also work in a way that demonstrates value to the customer and behave in a manner that exemplifies the way Softcat wish to be perceived to the outside world.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned how to develop my decision making skills set, alongside learning how to develop my personal skills to be able to adapt to each individual customer and situation. I have also had to adapt my approach to situations and think in a business mindset and not a in a 'personal' capacity!

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I genuinely thoroughly enjoy my programme at Softcat. I couldn't think of a better to place to introduce myself to the working world. I believe the programme and training I am receiving this year will completely prepare me for my future, whether that be at Softcat or elsewhere but moreover, it gives me the opportunity to gain experience in a brilliant environment.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well structured through the different forms of training we receive and these forms of training allow me to fulfil my role better on a daily business at Softcat. If there was one bad thing it would be sometimes the rooms we do training in can be a little small but that is a very minor inconvenience!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Softcat are super supportive with anything that I ask them to help me with and this helps me to ensure that I am making the kind of progress I want to be making throughout my time here. My manager is absolutely fantastic and helps me with anything I need.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Russ at Remit always works extremely hard to ensure that we are looked after and working hard so we can make the most of the opportunity put in front of us. He offers to check our work out of hours and really gives the impression he cares about his learners

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training we receive is beneficial in that it offers us a platform to learn and utilise that learning in the working environment from the word go. Given the nature of our role being so hands on we have the chance to use our learning on a day to day basis which only helps performance.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I play football on a Monday night in Marlow but there are golf, yoga, morning stretch classes and many more open to staff that are also free of charge. Being free of charge I think it also encourages a range of people to get involved and through these I get to meet new people I might not meet otherwise.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Softcat to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The level of opportunity is huge if you apply yourself in the right way and I think there is always going to be a chance to grow within management too if you are the right person. Softcat also opens a lot of doors for future employment if it ends up not being for an individual which helps.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Softcat?
  • I would advise them to be prepared, be ready and to embrace everything that Softcat offers. If you do all three of these, you will succeed at Softcat completely. Hard work, staying grounded and working with the values we hold will ultimately lead to you enjoying however long you choose to stay at Softcat.
